Open-loop control

Systems in which the output quantity has no effect upon

the process input quantity are called open-loop control systems.

Closed-loop control
Systems in which the output has an effect upon the
process input quantity in such a manner as to maintain the desired output value are
called closed-loop control systems.

Linear & Non Linear Systems

A system is said to be linear if it satisfies the principle of superposition

For checking the linearity of the given system, firstly we check the response
due to linear combination of inputs

Then we combine the two outputs linearly in the same manner as the inputs
are combined and again total response is checked

If response in step 2 and 3 are the same, the system is linear othewise it is

non linear.

Continuous data control system

Model whose state variables change
continuously with time

Discrete data control system

Model where state variables change in steps
as opposed to continuously with time (e.g., number of cattle in a barn); may be
deterministic or stochastic

Stochastic
Probabilistic model that uses randomness to account for
immeasurable factors (e.g., weather)

Deterministic
Model that does not use randomness but uses explicit expressions
for relationships that may or may not involve time rates of change
