1. a. Calculate ionic strength of a 0.02 M NaCl solution


b. Calculate ionic strength of a 0.02 M BaSO 4 solution
c. Calculate ionic strength of a 0.02 M Na2SO4 solution
d, Calculate ionic strength of a solution containing 0.01 M NaCl and 0.01 M BaSO 4
e. Calculate the ionic strenght of a solution containing 0.02 M acetic acid
f. What conclusions you can draw from the above calculations ?

2. Calculate the ionic strength of a solution containing 0.02 M NaCl and 0.02 M BaCl 2

3. 50 mL 0.1 M NaOH solution is mixed with 50 mL 0.2 M HCl solution. Calculate the
ionic strength of the resulting mixture assuming the volumes are additive

4. For a 0.0010 M MgCl2 solution, calculate the ionic strength, the activity coefficient
for each ion, and the activity of each ion.

5. Calculate the solubility of calcium fluoride in 0.01 M sodium sulfate solution taking
into account the activity coefficients. The solubility product constant for CaF2 is Ksp =
4.0x10-11

6. Calculate the molar solubility of LiF in pure water taking into account the activity
coefficients. The solubility product constant for LiF is Ksp = 1.7x10-3
