Cellular Manufacturing System (CMS) aims to improve the productivity and
efficiency of production by reducing throughput time. The idea underlying the cellular manufacturing system is grouping machines into cells to produce the part family, which is a group of parts requiring manufacturing processes are similar. However, there are several requirements that must be done in implementing cellular manufacturing system include plant operations using the type of layout components or processes and machinery / equipment that can be grouped logically. Grouping engine is a critical factor in cellular manufacturing because it determines the level of performance of the cell manufacturing. Cellular Manufacturing describes a production system into several sub-systems, called cell machine (machine cell), where in each cell can be processed in one or several parts family in full without any transfer between cells. Absolute independence of each cell engine difficult to achieve in the real world, because there are some parts that have to be processed in more than one cell. Part is called exceptional parts, which resulted in the displacement between the cells which increases the work-in-process, material handling costs, and decrease the efficiency of the system. Thus, the main purpose of the machine cell formation problem is finding grouping machines into cells that can minimize the movement of parts between cells
