Set Induction: We started talking about weather last

week. What type of weather did we just see last night?
Learnable Piece:
Today we are going to keep thinking about the different
types of weather. We know that it snowed yesterday.
What other types of weather have we seen recently?
Very nice. Here are four types that happen very often.
We have sun, rain, wind, and snow.
Presentation of New Material/Directions: Our activity
today is going to focus on these four types of weather.
We are going to split into four groups. Each group is
going to have to work together to come up with a dance
that shows your classmates what that type of weather
looks like and feels like. Then, we are going to present
the dances to the class.
For example, if my group was trying to show hail, here
are some moves we might do.
Here are some safety rules. Make sure that when you
are working on your dance, you have enough space to
do your moves. Make sure that the moves you pick are
moves that everyone can do. Watch out for tables,
computers, and other students. Also, when I say freeze,
I need everyone to stop and look at me.

Transition: Now I am going to split you into groups of

four. When you get your number, hold it high in the air.
If you are a number one, please walk over to this area. If
you are a number two, go to this corner. Threes please
go to that corner. And fours, the last corner. Ones, you
will be Sun. Twos, you will be rain. Threes, you will be
wind. And fours, you will be snow. Each group will have
a few minutes to come up with at least 4 or 5 moves for
your type of weather. You should also include some
sound effects in your dance. When you are done, stay
with your group and practice your dance.
Check for understanding:
Does anyone have any questions?
One person raise their hand and tell me how many
moves they need for this dance.
Activity:
Each group will be in a different corner or area of the
room. Each group will move separately. I will move
around the room to make sure they understand the task
and are staying focused. I will be listening to make sure
they have a good understanding of what the type of
weather is like and working together.
Once all the groups are done and have had time to
practice, I will have each of the groups show their dance
to the class.

Possible Modifications: For kindergarten, I would

probably have the students come up with only 2 or 3
moves in their dance. If it seems like 5 moves is too
hard, I can lessen the number of moves. Also, if
students seem too shy to preform for the whole group, I
could make two groups present to each other.
