Activity
This activity is designed to allow students the
opportunity to learn about subtle and blatant symbolism, authorial intent, and personal reflection of these representations.
This activity must follow a guided reading of Lord of
the Flies, with character traits relevant to their symbology expressed to the students. This activity will test their knowledge of the characters, overall storyline, and symbolic resonance.
Students will go through the Lord of the Flies game,
making note of each of their answers. After completing the simulation, students will write a 1-2 page paper about The meaning behind one characters name and one of the matching items from the first section of the game A symbol used in one of the categories of the second section of the game and how it relates to its section Their choice in the third section of the game and why they chose that answer
The teacher will make clear to the students that
their grade will be based upon the writing, not the games score. Papers should be graded for accuracy, clarity, and thought.
Extra credit will be made available to students that
write a 1-page summary of their agreements or disagreements with John Greens interpretation of the novel. T e c h n o l o g y
