Before start this project, I would like to ask this question: Why does exist Social

Issues in Peru? Peru is a country of abundant natural resources and rich culture.
Although this, over half of the population live in poverty, social discrimination
and inequality are widespread, the environment has been damaged every year
and more problems that have been existed in our society.
Given this question, today I am going to talk about three Social Issues in Peru,
its causes and consequences.
The first Social Issue that I would like to explain you is the poverty. Im
convinced that this is the most important problem in the society. Although
government statistics report that only a third of the Peruvian population lives
below the national poverty line, about 8 million people still qualify as poor.
Poverty in Peru is deepest among indigenous people living in remote rural
areas. In fact, the national rural poverty rate is over 50 percent, with 20
percent of people in the Andean region considered extremely poor. This is
evident in the villages in the mountains; they look almost abandoned, with
people living in huts, little modern technology and often no electricity.
The consequence of poverty could be the malnutrition, especially in children of
poor families because they rarely have access to highly nutritious foods.
Another effect could be the diseases because they lack the resources to
maintain a healthy living environment and the other consequence is that many
children living in poverty are unable to attend school from a very early age.
Families may not be able to afford the necessary clothing or school supplies
Im certain that the poverty is one of the causes for the other two social issues I
would like to explain today: The Child Labor and The Crime.
In our country more than two million children and adolescents work in Peru,
according to figures from the national statistics institute INEI. The figures are
low because they exclude under 14s, those working in illegal activities or
domestic service, and those who usually work but are currently inactive.
Im pretty sure that there are a lot of children who have been exploited by older
people, but many times they have no choice because they live in poor
households.
The consequences of Child Labor is that most of children have to sacrifice their
education in order to go to work or maybe they are required to repeat school
years. This situation is very sad.
But, in the other hand, there are a lot of children who are involved in criminal
bands. In our country we cant walk through the streets safely because the
number of criminals are rising every year. One of the causes of the crime is
poverty, the other could be the idleness because the criminals dont like to
work and they see in the crime the easiest way out.
The consequences of crime is that there are a lot of deaths every day, so there
are unsafe people, especially businessmen because they are extorted.

In my opinion the government must have more drastically laws and put more
police officers in the streets.
