Project spotlight
Magna Exteriors
Industrial Design

Magna Exteriors Industrial Design department has embarked on a 10-week journey to examine solving problems of 2030. Project
Blue Sky is a collaboration between five interns and five industry professionals working together on various projects. The program is
formatted into phases such as ideation, story development and design. The purpose of Blue Sky is to generate conversation around
issues with product development coming at a much later state. Nonetheless, Blue Sky highlights Magnas creative talent and ability to
be a forward-thinking company. Each intern is assigned four projects. The following are two examples:
Super Drone for 2: Drones are becoming increasingly more popular and the automotive industry is no exception to the trend.
Interns were tasked with developing ideas for what a transportation drone would look like. Areas of focus include, What are the
benefits and limitations a drone may present? Logistically, how far could they travel and where would a Super Drone be parked?
Organic Vehicle: With the growing trend to live sustainably, this project combined the automotive industry with the natural environment. Interns have been evaluating ideas such as, What shape and material would an organic automobile have? Would the
automobile be able to grow and replace itself if repairs are needed?
Overall, Magna Exteriors interns have thoroughly enjoyed their Blue Sky collaboration experience. This project has allowed them to
contribute to Magnas goal of creating the Car of the Future.

CROSSWORD
Our People:
Intern Edition
ANDREW KENNY

Andrew Kenny is an intern in the Government Affairs department.

One of his biggest projects was trying to receive funding for a new
facility driveway. In order to do this, he collaborated with Lyon
Township to apply for state grants. Although the state was unable
to provide funding, Andrew enjoyed the project because he was
able to interact with the state throughout every stage of the project.
Andrew is a junior at Oakland University where he studies history
and political science. After graduating, Andrew plants to go to law
school and is considering pursuing a career in politics. He enjoys
working at Magna, because it allows him to see what happens from
a companys perspective when legislation is passed or when state
programs are created.
Andrew admits that at times his internship can be challenging,
but the mentors in the Government Affairs department are always
supportive, especially when it comes to new projects. He stated
that the team-orientated attitude Magna employees have impresses
him, and allows him to learn from a variety of people on a daily
basis.
