1Definition of polynomial by a monomial

A polynomial as oppose to the monomial is a sum of monomials where eachmonomial is

called a term. The degree of the polynomial is the greatest degree of its terms.
A polynomial is usually written with the term with the highest exponent of the variable first and
then decreasing from left to right.
1) 2(4+x)= 8+2x
2) 2(4-x)= 8-2x
3) -2(4-x)= -8- -2(-x)=-8+2x
4) 10(3+k -k)=30+10k-10k
5) x(3+x)=3x+x
6) x(3-x+y)=3x-x+xy
2Definition of products of two binomial
Definition: A polynomial equation with two terms usually joined by a plus or minus sign is called
a binomial. Binomials are used in algebra. Polynomials with one term will be called a
monomial and could look like 7x. A polynomial with two terms is called a binomial, it could look
like 3x + 9.

4Definition of square of Binomial

The square of any binomial produces the

following three terms:
1. The square of the first term of the binomial: a2
2. Twice the product of the two terms: 2ab
3. The square of the second term: b2

1(a + b)2 =a2 + 2ab + b2.

2(x + 6)2=x2 + 12x + 36
3(3x 4)2 =9x2 24x + 16
4(5x3 1)2 =25x6 10x3 + 1
5(x + 7)2=x2 + 14x + 49
5Defenition of cube of binomial
Cube the 1st term
Square the 1st term then times the 2nd term, then times 3.
Square the 2nd term, then times the 1st terms, then times 3.
Cube the 2nd term.

Ex.

1(x+3)=x+9x+27x+27

2(2 3x)3 (5 + 3x)3= -117 261x - 81 x2 - 54 x3

3(5m + 2n)3 - (5m 2n)3= 300 m2 n + 16 n3
4(a b)3 = a3 3a2b + 3ab2 b3
5(x + 5y)3 + (x 5y)3 = 2x3 + 150xy2

2) Defenition of Sum and Difference of two terms

The second term will always be negative, and a perfect square like the first term
multiplying the sum of two terms with their difference with this slightly more complicated,
variable term.
The second term is negative, and a perfect square like the first term.
