COX MILL HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE

BY : MORGAN VAN BIBBER

I understand that schools don't want girls to come to school with their butts and
chests out, but we should be able to have a happy medium. we should have the right to be
comfortable in our own clothes and be able to wear what we have. Ive been dress coded
for small holes that are three inches above my knee, even when there was string that
covered most of my skin. I had to sit in the control room for the rest of the day which
took away my right to be educated. I think this topic is very gender bias and not fair to
girls. Some schools have banned girls from wearing leggings and skinny jeans. What do
they expect us to wear? We want to be comfortable in our own clothes and I dont think
we should get discriminated because boys cant control themselves. For example, over 45
female Hickory Ridge High School students were sent to the office in one day. All of
these girls were wearing leggings and were sent to have their shirt lengths checked. Most
of the girls that were sent to the office had on a t-shirt that wasnt revealing at all.One
student that I found in an article explained how its hard to find clothes that comply with
the dress code, she said I had bought a crew neck shirt and it came right here [pointing
to her collarbone] I was told it was pushing the lines Some schools around North
Carolina allow the girls to wear what they want, without being inappropriate. They could
wear shorts and tank tops, but most school, like mine doesnt allow us to be comfortable
in our own clothes. We arent allowed to show our shoulders or reveal too much of our
thighs with holes in our jeans, due to the immature teenage boys that cant control
themselves.
