Summary:
This drama, based on Philippine tribal ritual and ceremony, tells
the story of two defiant lovers from different castes who insist on
being married. This creates friction between the families on both
sides. The couple moves to the groom's family's home where the
bride copes with years of constant humiliation. This forces runs
for 135 mins. An Igorot girl falls in love with a city guy. They get
married even if their families protest. The girl lives with her
Manila in-laws and suffers years of humiliation. The couple
decides to move to her hometown, and the guy is killed. Set on
the mountains in Banaue Rice Terraces, award-winning actress
Charito Solis essayed the role of a mountain princess who fell in
love with a man (Ric Rodrigo) from the city. They eventually got
married and lived in the city. It’s not all heaven for Solis as she
was ridiculed, mocked and humiliated by the city folks. Things got
worse when the daughter accidentally slipped down the stairs
and died while trying to pacify her mother who was having a
fight.

Rich in cultural heritage, breathtaking views, the big budgeted

melodrama won 8 Famas Awards and was best remembered not
only of Miss Solis superb and award-winning performance but her
decision to bare in front of the screen. She had two scenes where
she had a breast exposure.

Reaction:
What we saw in the film was somewhat daring for Charito
Solis for she was to accept the challenge to have a breast
exposure. But, it is common nowadays. We liked also the setting,
the Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao. The story may really happen
because of its story when a city man fell in love with a
probinsyana. It is a really great film because it bagged 8 awards
in one awards night.

(Introductory Part : Charito Solis was taking a bath in the falls

while Ric Rodrigo peeps on her)
