X-Men School Application

To our newest mutant recruit,
We appreciate your interest in Xaviers School for Gifted youngsters, home of the world
famous X-Men. Our school has been home to many individuals that you may know,
including Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey.
To continue with your application, we would like for you to complete the following information:
1. Describe how your DNA, chromosomes, and genes are related to each other. Where can your mutated gene
be found? Remember, humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total), so which one has your mutation?

2. Describe the trait that you received from your unique alleles. Describe the superpower.

3. Use meiosis and a Punnett Square to explain how you could have received the allele from your parents.

4. Draw a picture of how your body has been changed by this allele in your mutant gene.

Parents Pick Genetics

If parents could pick out the genes they wanted for their children, should
they be allowed to?
Read the above statement, and think about all the good things and bad things that could come
from parents being able to pick out their childrens genes. Remember that genes control how
individual parts of your body are built, like hair color, height, skin color, etc.
Now, decide: is this a good thing or a bad thing? Explain your opinion and use a separate piece
of paper if you need more room.
