You will read a brief literary section that you have not read in class and
answer eight questions. Be familiar with all discussed literary
terminology and elements of plot.
Section 3: Quotation Identification (2 questions at 10 points each)
For this portion of the exam, you will identify the title of the text the
quotation comes from, the name of the speaker, its context, and its
significance. You should discuss the relevant literary significance for
each passage if some literary device (such as metaphor, simile,
allusion, imagery, etc.) is present, you must identify it and then also
discuss the particular significance of that feature within the passage.
Finally, if the passage relates to an important theme of the work as a
whole, you should discuss the theme. Do not simply write a
summary of the plot! Use complete sentences, correct grammar,
sentence structure, and try to incorporate quotes if possible.
