CRODAFOS M915A

C9-15 Alkyl Phosphate

CRODAFOS M915A has been designed for use in personal care cleansing products such as shampoos, body
washes, bar soaps, shaving products, and facial and hand cleansers. CRODAFOS M915A is an excellent mild
foaming phosphate ester designed to provide volumes of dense, lubricious foam and a smooth skin after-feel. In a
typical body wash or shampoo formulation, CRODAFOS M915A can be used as the primary surfactant for maximum
skin-feel and foam density or as an auxiliary surfactant. Performance enhancing benefits will still be realized at low
levels of concentration while replacing an equal, or sometimes greater, amount by weight of such materials as ether
sulfates, betaines or alkanolamides in a standard-type formulation.
Features
Optimized mono- and di- alkyl ratio; balancing solubility and foaming with thickening and skin-feel effects
Easy to handle liquid viscosity; excellent freeze-thaw
Fully active un-neutralized form allowing for custom neutralization and reduced shipping cost by not transporting
large amounts of water as with many foaming surfactants
Can formulate at elevated or room temperature
Usable in anhydrous and aqueous systems
Excellent salt/viscosity response when in combination with sulfates and betaines - similar shift in formulation salt
curve as with the use of alkanolamides
Compatible with many quats, enabling clear conditioning formulations
Benefits
Makes stable and dense foam
Mild, non-irritating feel
Immediate lubricious skin-feel during washing
Smooth after-feel
Provides static discharge and mild conditioning feel for hair
Applications
Body washes
Shampoos
Bath gels
Bar soaps, combo-bars and syndets
Shave creams and gels
Facial cleansers
Liquid hand cleansers
Improved Foam Quality
CRODAFOS M915A increases formulation foam density without compromising foam height, as indicated in Figures 1
and 2.

Foam Density Test Method

Equipment
A vacuum chamber equipped with a disposable moisture absorbing core, an inlet and a removable outlet. The outlet
is fitted with a water aspirator adapter and allows changing of the moisture absorbing core. The inlet is fitted with a 3
long suction tubing.
Method
Weigh the vacuum chamber and then connect to the water aspirator. Generate foam using the Ross Miles method.
Allow the foam-water interface to equilibrate (~2 min) and note the initial foam height. Suction out 300 ml of foam
(which may vary depending on the initial foam height). Immediately disconnect the vacuum chamber from the water
aspirator and determine its weight. Repeat this process after cleaning the vacuum chamber and changing the
moisture absorbing core. The results are expressed as grams/ml.

Again, as seen in both Figure 1 and 2, CRODAFOS M915A can increase the foam density of formulations without
compromising foam height.
Safety Testing
CRODAFOS M915A is extremely mild as compared to other commonly used surfactants. Below are safety testing
scores for both eye and skin irritation. A scale for interpretation follows below.
Table 1: Skin and eye irritation testing results show CRODAFOS M915A is as mild, or even milder, than other
commonly used surfactants.
