Description of how to implement in the class: To introduce famous people to the
students, I will use the George Washington Carver BrainPop to engage my students. I
will ask the students if they know anything special about his teeth. After a short
discussion, I will challenge the students to see if our predictions are correct. The
students will watch the George Washington Garver video and I will ask the students to
remember one interesting fact about George Washington Garver.
After watching the video, the student will start telling the teacher their interesting
fact and the teacher can record them on the interactive board. If there is not enough
response (1:1) then keep going until we get a fact from each student. Each student will
pick one fact to create and illustration. After the drawing has been complete with at

least one sentence to support the picture, the teacher will use her camera to create an
image. All images will add to a PowerPoint slide show where the students will narrate
their image. The PowerPoint will be converted to a movie format and uploaded to the
classroom blog.
To extend this activity, students will select one of the other famous people to
research. Students can work by themselves or with a small group. The final project will
be posted to the classroom blog.
