Joline demonstrated an exceptional knowledge of the subject matter she taught and was confident teaching the
curriculum. Her ability to teach math in Spanish greatly progressed this semester. She used state and local learning
standards to plan instruction. She also used a variety of strategies to help students improve their literacy skills. Joline
planned and implemented an exemplary poetry unit that included common core standards, appropriate goals, and
matching assessments.

As the semester progressed, Joline used formative assessment to measure where her students were and used
scaffolding to help them get to where they needed to be. While she began the semester aware of the multiple
contextual factors that impact learning, her understanding of the way that factors such as culture, race, supplemental
educational services, and gender impact students greatly increased. She researched articles regarding the stress that
comes along with facing adversity, as many of the students in her classroom do. Joline expressed a desire to become
more involved in educational issues from a political standpoint in order do all that she can to assist students in
reaching their potential. She worked to get to know each student's strengths and weaknesses and recorded this
information in an individual student profile that she completed for each student. She also began the semester by
researching the developmental level of her sixth graders to learn about their unique characteristics and factor these
into her instruction.

Over the course of the semester, Joline showed improvement in lesson planning and reflection. She learned to better
plan her lessons to meet her student needs, as well as to anticipate the way her students might respond and anticipate
further clarification they might need. She aimed to bring creativity to her lessons in order to make them exciting,
engaging, and relevant. One of her goals was to help her students take ownership of their learning. She created daily
lessons and plans that took into account students diverse abilities and developmental levels as well as culture, race,
socioeconomic status, and gender differences. She gave opportunities for all students to interact positively across
cultures. She used the materials provided by the district, her mentor teacher, as well as online resources. She was well
organized which was evident in her lesson plans, long-range plans, and semester assignments. When possible, Joline
incorporated technology into her lessons.
Throughout the semester, Joline made gains at assessing her students. She used lesson objectives to help her students
self-assess whether they were meeting the objectives. She became adept at using both formative and summative
assessments.

Joline was very adept at communicating with her bi-lingual students and learned much about establishing rapport with
students from different cultures. She learned a variety of ways to get students attention and to communicate with
them in a way that was approachable yet still commanded respect.
Joline also communicated appropriately in speaking, writing, and listening with parents from diverse groups. She wrote
bi-lingual letters home and also attended three nights of parent/teacher conferences. Because the conferences were
student-directed, she was able to build relationships with parents and students alike.
Joline is a true team player and not only got to know her grade level team members well but also formed relationships
with students and teachers of other grade levels. She helped first graders at dismissal time, attended staff meetings,
ELA professional learning communities, and an ILT meeting. Furthermore, she met with the principal to discuss the
hiring process.

Joline approached teaching with enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and a positive attitude. She voluntarily came a few
days early to help her mentor teacher set up her classroom in August. Joline was always enthusiastic and positive
when I observed her teach. She has a very professional demeanor and eagerness to learn.
Joline is proficient at identifying where she can improve and is learning to identify her strengths. She was always
receptive to constructive feedback and worked to implement changes in her instruction as effectively as possible. She
worked at being more explicit in her directions as well as teaching her students how to take responsibility for their own
learning.
Joline worked earnestly to communicate with each student in a way that showed she cared and was there to help
them. She also formulated outstanding goals at the end of the semester where she laid out what she will do to
continue learning and growing as a professional. She made valuable contributions to our small group seminar and was
always eager to share with others.

Joline learned as much as she could about school policies and implemented them with her students in order to
maintain consistency. She helped her students see the value in being honest and respectful with each other. She led
discussions about how and why to treat each other well. Joline also learned how to be flexible in order to
accommodate unexpected occurrences such as rescheduled specials, unannounced meetings, district essay
competitions, changes in district post-assessments, and the ever disruptive intercom.

Joline absolutely demonstrated her belief that all students are unique and have their own gifts. She created a
wonderful atmosphere where students knew she loved and cared for them. She has a heart for justice and restorative
practice. She is passionate about helping her students recognize the positive impact of coming together as a
community. While teaching in a public school, Joline was careful that her faith beliefs did not conflict with school
policy. Her prayer is to view her students as God sees them and to be a light amidst some of the darkness her students
face.

Summary Comments:

Joline is professional, gifted, hardworking, and has a fun sense of humor. She has a great love and passion for her
students and teaching! She has made significant progress this semester in anticipating student needs, crafting
thorough lessons, and using a variety of approaches and resources. I have no doubt that Joline will be able to
successfully meet the needs of her students and be a blessing to the school that hires her. It is a privilege to
recommend Joline Andrews for teacher certification.
