LAURA BUCHANAN

Philosophy of Education

As a teacher it is important for my students to become engaged, and
independent learners. I believe that all students have the ability to learn in their own
unique ways to reach their full potential. It is my job to help them discover how they
learn best. This will be done through hands on learning and differentiated stations,
while I walk around, model, facilitate learning, and help students learn from their
mistakes. The stations will be developmentally appropriate and create opportunities for
students to interact and learn with each other. The stations will be used for all subject
areas, with an emphasis on reading. These are based on Deweys theories of low-risk
learning and hands-on learning, and also Vysgotskys theory of facilitation and
scaffolding. They will be designed around the Universal Design for Learning so I put the
individualities first. I also plan on incorporating collaborate projects, projects with
technology and STEAM projects. I plan on making learning engaging and encouraging.
With these in place, my classroom will be a caring environment that promotes life-long
learning.
