(i) Bond strength refers to the shear stress at the interface between reinforcement bars and concrete that resists slippage of the bar relative to the surrounding concrete. (ii) Concrete grade is selected based on environmental exposure conditions, with M20 being the minimum for reinforced concrete under mild exposure. (iii) Modulus of elasticity can be defined as initial tangent modulus or secant modulus from the stress-strain curve of the first cycle, and IS 456:2000 provides a formula to calculate the modulus of elasticity of concrete.

It is shear stress at the interface of reinforcement bar and concrete developed to
resist the slippage of bar relative to its surrounding concrete.
(iv) Grades of concrete:
Based on environmental exposure conditions the minimum grade of concrete is
selected. For example under mild exposure conditions minimum grade of concrete for reinforced concrete structures is specified as M20. In the designation of concrete mix M refers to the mix and the number to the specified compressive strength of 150 mm size cube at 28 days expressed in N/mm2 (IS 456:2000)
(v) Modulus of elasticity:
The modulus of elasticity determined from the stress-strain curve of the first cycle could be defined as initial tangent modulus, secant modulus.
The formula of modulus of elasticity of concrete as per IS 456:2000 is given below:
