SUGIDANON BAYLUHAY

As I watch the performance last February 13, 2017 at West Visayas

State University, a theater act entitled Sugidanon Bayluhay, I was clearly
enlightened by the history of Panay, the historic barter based on folk history
of the Maragtas Legend.

The story took three different settings in a one stage. First, when
the Pinuno of the tribe chose for the next rightful heir of his throne which is
his son as well. It took place when newly proclaimed Pinuno chose for his
partner, along the scenes, different spells and ancient beliefs are conveyed.
The second setting is all about the wicked Sultan and how fatal is he when it
comes to his punishments and the consequences of his desires. Finally, in the
play, Datu Puti took a stand and found an opportunity to escape from the
wicked sultan together with the slaves on a boat to find refuge somewhere
else in a far away island. The last setting is when the new Pinuno of the tribe
was happily molding his own ambiance of celebration for his people, and a
quality romantic time for his partner, there were unexpected tourists who
washed along the seashore of the Pinunos land; they were Datu Puti
together with those people whom they saved from the Sultan. As time went
by, they traded things for the cause of peace and harmony between the
people of the tribe and the people of the tourists, thus, there goes the history
of Panay.

It was a great story that really nourished me with knowledge about the past
and truly helped me unravel the history of Panay, All in all it was superb, it
does not only entertain me but it also provided me great impact in terms of
historical aspects.
