Warfare
What will happen if war prevails? thats what my father asked me when I
was a kid. Although he didnt tell me the answer, it still boggles my mind to
think about it even though I was a kid back then.
I have a prosperous family, we are all happy, we are not thinking about
anything that could make us sad or anxious. Every meal, we eat it as a
whole family, my father, mother, me and my siblings. And we are happy
talking together. I am the youngest, my dream is to become a soldier
because I look at them as a cool guys fighting for their country. We have an
old-fashioned house with a typical chimney, a classical car, it is really cool
to live rich. My father is a business man and my mother is taking care of us.
One day, everything disappeared, our house, our car, my parents, my
siblings. I survived because I am the only one who is outside the house.
There are soldiers entering our house, my Mom is shouting through the
window saying that I should hide. They are trapped inside the house, and
then after a while, I heard gunshots coming from our house. More soldiers
are coming from above, jumping from the planes, releasing their
parachutes, they armed with guns and grenades. Everything happened
instantly, in just a blink of an eye, our whole village is on fire. While hiding in
the well, I hear people screaming, begging for mercy, then after that I heard
gunshot. I stayed in the well for almost one day, traumatized, and after a
while, someone saw me in the well. They helped me to get out from it, they
gave me food, shelter, care, while Im crying non-stop. These soldiers are so
kind and angry at the same time, they have the flag of our country in their
uniform. Different from the soldiers that attacked our village.
They told me that I am the only one in the village who survived the attack of
the foreign soldiers, because our country is at war. Those foreign soldiers
just killed a lot of innocent people just for rage and vengeance. I simply
cried in sadness, terror, and anger, mixed in one. Im just 10 years old back
then, and remembering it, is a nightmare for me. Then after that, I lived
throughout my life alone, without my biological family who died in the
attack.
Here in the military we treat each other as a family. I am now grown-up, I
became a soldier and I am ready to fight for our country, tomorrow is my
first call of duty, we are going to attack the country who attacked our
village. I do not know if we are doing this for vengeance or to win the war.
But our mission is to attack one of their city to make them surrender. Is it
history repeating itself? I mean this is the exact thing that happened to us,
now we are bringing it back to them. I do not care at all, it is my job to
follow what is the order of my country. But killing a lot of innocent people
just for war is just inhumane.
This is it, the time I make my first duty. We are riding in helicopters and we
will land by jumping with parachutes.
We have landed.
I didnt raised my gun or shoot at once. Because the scenario Im seeing is
the exact thing that happened in our village. The only difference is, Im the
one whos going to execute. Im the one whos bringing destruction, and the
people are now begging for us to show mercy, stop the killing.
I just gazed at the surrounding full of noise, explosions, gunshot, and
remembering what my father asked me What will happen if war prevails?.
I know now the answer, death and unending suffering will happen if war
prevails. Nations attacking each other for the sake of their pride and glory,
not thinking what will happen to the innocent people. Blood spills to the
ground, people lying in the ground, fire engulfing structures, these things
are continuously happening when at war. This has to stop.
After many years, war has ended.
Nations build up peace and order, promising that everything that happened
in the past will never happen again.
Im now old. A veteran, the screams of innocent people still grips my mind.
Here in my country, people honors me, pay respect, thinking that we saved
this country. I have no regrets at joining the military. Because it is my dream
in the first place. But the only drawback is still the nightmares Im getting
every night. I accept it because its my punishment.
Im glad the world is now at peace again. And if a war is about to happen
again, Im pretty sure humanity will have its crisis in survival. As the
technology advances for warfare, the human extinction is also getting
closer.
Explanation:
First of all, I only made up this story and it is not related
to any person, any relation to others personal life is
only a pure coincidence.
The theme of the story is war, I made this story because
I believe in every problem, war is never an option.
Why are we to suffer for what they started? Why do we
still fight? For Victory? Honor? Glory? To prove in the
world that their country is the best? To get what they
want?
This story is about a guy who dreamed to become a
soldier and saw the reality behind war.
I wrote this short story to say to everyone that war is
just an event where a lot of souls were sent to eternity,
infrastructures are just destroyed and countries are just
showing their big arms.
I believe in the quote If we dont end war, war will end
us.
As of today, world is at peace and we must be happy
about it, maybe our grandpa or grandma experienced
some of it. We must continue the solidarity we are
seeing today, the peace we are feeling today, theres a
saying In time of peace, prepare for war. But I believe
that if we continue to pray, respect other, avoid conflict,
we can make peace forever possible.
In short, the story tells us that if war prevails, humanity
will experience massive destruction, madness, sadness
and depression. And we humans, might just become a
part of history of Earth.
