PERSONAL EVALUATION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

1. Professional Learning and Development Achieved

Through my on-the-job training, I learned several things. First is, to grasp empathy.
Compassion is about impartially understanding varying points of view which thusly gives an
abundance of knowledge into your own viewpoint. Then confidence. One reason for boosting
confidence is that there is a solid relationship amongst confidence and success. Subsequently, one
of the self-improvement objectives that I should gain is to have self-confidence. I have to listen
actively too. Effectively figuring out how to focus and exhibit to others that you really value their
sentiments and what they have. Pick undivided attention, open-finished inquiries, with supporting
non-verbal communication, and remove any diversions that obstruct with the capacity to listen.

I have fear too especially when in front or dealing with other people. So I made fear as my
companion. To wipe out fear, you need to first be presented to fear, permit yourself to feel
apprehensive and open yourself to it. When you are alright with the vagueness and uncertainly of
the circumstance, you can begin working your way through it in a quiet rational way. Get along with
others. You should dependably search for intends to make rapport with others. you should be
straightforward and your essential goal is not to control others, rather you ought to learn the ways
through which you can relate and get along well with others. Get along with yourself is an
antecedent to getting along with others. Your must figure out how to acknowledge and accept your
aptitudes, experience, goals and limitations. This solid concentration and more grounded you, is
helpful and appealing. Quit procrastinating too. You have to comprehend that hesitation is not a
character attribute, but instead a propensity. Since it is a habit, it is 100% workable for you to
unlearn it similarly as you have learnt the propensity. Strive to use time in the best way and
maintain a strategic distance from lingering definitely. Then wake up early. Build up the habit to rise
early.
I increased my competence and confidence in public speaking. I gained the competence
that I could be a strong public speaker. However in the past, I often doubted myself and was not
overly confident in my abilities. I can now handle duties and responsibilities well. I have now also
the confidence in participating in professional talks and organizations.
2. Modern Techniques, Skills and Tools Used/Learned

Through our internship, we were task to monitor the workers in every area of the company.
We need to know and calculate how productive the workers are. So an IE student, we used
different tools. It is part of the course Methods Engineering. It is used to describe collection of
analysis techniques which focus on improving the effectiveness of men and machines. The
assurance to deliver results and ability to accomplish results. A comprehension of the human
factors included. Method study enhances work strategies through process and operation analysis,
for example, manufacturing operations and their sequence; people, materials, devices and gauges.
Facility layout and work station design. Movement of men and material handling. Work condition.
Targets of Method Study is basically concerned with discovering better methods for getting things
done. It includes esteem and expands the productivity by disposing of excess operations,
avoidable postponements and different types of waste.

We did a time and motion study. Time consider as a work estimation procedure comprising
of cautious time estimation of the assignment with a period measuring instrument, balanced for any
watched fluctuation from ordinary exertion or pace and to permit sufficient time for such things as
outside components, unavoidable or machine delays, rest to defeat exhaustion, and individual
needs. A time study can establish a baseline from which to drive improvement efforts, or set a
standard to control performance. Without basic time study measures, it is impossible to know
whether work has improved or whether there are differences in performance in a unit.
3. Equipment, Machinery, Testing Apparatus, etc., Handheld

I experienced to use different kinds of testing apparatus and equipment inside the QC/QA
laboratory since the quality of paint must be assured. A Hegman gauge, some of the time alluded
to as a grind gauge or grindometer, is a gadget used to decide how finely ground the particles of
pigment scattered in an example of paint. The gauge comprises of a steel obstruct with a
progression of little parallel sections machined into it. The sections diminish top to bottom from one
end of the piece to the next, as per a scale stamped by them. Deciding the fineness of a paint's
pound is essential, in light of the fact that excessively coarse a grind may lessen the paint's
shading consistency, gleam, and haziness. The Hegman gauge is broadly utilized for this reason
since it requires insignificant aptitude and just a few moments' work.

Viscometers measure the viscosity and flow properties of fluids. Viscosity arises from the
internal friction of a fluid and is defined as a liquids resistance to flow or shear stress. Viscometers
have wide and varied applications in the materials science and chemical industries for materials
such as oil, asphalt, plastics, wax, paints, coatings, and adhesives. They are also used for food
and beverages and personal-care products such as cosmetics, shampoo, and toothpaste.
Measuring viscosity is important when considering process conditions for materials that need to be
pumped or piped. Viscosity also affects dipping and coating performance, which is particularly
relevant to paints and inks.

In addition to that, I also experienced to use density cups, analytic balance, pH meter,
oven necessary for checking the quality and properties of paint.
4. Experiences with the Company Personnel Involved in the Training

Internship makes me feel free, independent. It made me feel kind of like a grown-up. It
showed me how to be responsible and to deal with my finances. I needed to figure out how to take
open transportation, how to communicate with my associates, work with various sorts of
individuals, and furthermore learn promptness. As it were, it was practically similar to I had adapted
genuine aptitudes in less than a month. I will always remember my first employment encounter. It
will dependably be a major some portion of me developing and turning into a youthful grown-up.

I strolled down; very anxious since it was my first day. Our supervisor invited us warmly
and even gave us orientation. They simply clarified what are their expectations from us. Our
supervisor was exceptionally informative. The people who assigned to handle me was very
informative too especially the QC/QA chemist. He treated me well, he guided me as long as he
could and gave me instructions for me to understand the processes in the company. The batchers
and fillers, they are the personnel in the production area, assisted me. They were also cooperative.
To wrap it up, they are all nice and approachable.

With everything taken into account, my internship has shown me numerous useful things.
To always have a receptive outlook and work in a situation. The will to adjust to another work and
to always be respectful and kind to my future bosses, as well as my workmates as well. What I
have learned in the traverse of 1 month will become a major portion of me while growing up.

I'm anticipating taking what I've realized and applying it for myself. I truly don't know where
I would be on the off chance that I didn't accept this internship because without it, I would have
never learned what I have now.
5. Best Practices Used/Applied

One of the practices that I applied in the company is identifying workplace hazards.
Considering individuals responsible, knowing the law and having a grip on your protection needs
are imperative. Yet, taking care of dangers as they happen requires the making of a
comprehensive safety plan. That plan ought to incorporate techniques for recognizing and taking
care of risks, the position of caution signs, evacuation of liquids or dangerous materials and
apparatuses expected to expel the hazards. When it comes to co-workers which happened to be
my classmates, I encouraged them to be enthusiastic about their work. I believe that passionate,
enthusiastic co-workers will provide better performance. In fact, engaged co-workers attract
positivity. I want everybody to be excited about their work and encourage them to be excited about
theirs.
I set clear conduct desires for the group. I tell them that I anticipate them to approach each
other with respect. On the off chance that a colleague feels isolated and disrespected, doing their
best to bring them once again. I talk secretly to them who make others feel rejected. A conscious
situation is the best to encourage imaginative, beneficial work. We've all heard that true
communication is a two-way road. Not only listening to your co-workers reveal special thoughts on
the most proficient method to enhance your organization's performance, however it will likewise
give a decent case of powerful communication for your colleagues. Worker engagement
administration is a successful apparatus in social affair, analyzing, and acting up on feedback.
6. Discipline Related Solutions Integrated Into the Company

Industrial engineers find ways to eliminate wastefulness in production processes. They

devise efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to
make a product or provide a service. Industrial Engineering is an interdisciplinary engineering. It
involves many sciences or disciplines. As an intern, we are all engaged well in the field of Industrial
Engineering. We already noticed problems as we go along in our internship. One is poor facility
layout. There are congestions and bad utilization of space, excessive stock in process at the facility
and labor anxiety and discomfort.
One of the discipline related solutions that an IE know when it comes to this is facility
design planning. A facility layout is an arrangement of everything needed for production of goods
and services or delivery of services. A facility is an entity that facilitates the performance of any job.
It includes decisions regarding the physical allocation of the economic activities in a facility. The
objective of plant layout is a more effective work flow at the facility, allowing workers and equipment
being more productive. Facility layout techniques apply to the case where several physical means
have to be located in a certain area, either industrial processes or services.
7. Strong Points

Among the assets of an organization, its workers are the most essential. I think this is one
of the companys strong points. On the off chance that an organization has quality in HR, it might
incorporate a capacity to draw in and hold the best competitors from the work pool. An organization
may likewise have a preparing program that lets new employees rapidly adapt or one that
continues creating worker know-how through broadly educating or administration improvement.
Different qualities an organization may have incorporate profundity and broadness of aptitude,
turnover rate, assurance and fulfilment.
In spite of the fact that not all organizations have an research and development,
organizations still need some exploration capacity to screen the outside condition. The capacity to
direct and utilize client and item research might be an organization's quality, permitting it to exploit
patterns or market specialties. The offices, mastery and imagination to grow new items could be a
quality, just like the versatility of an organization that can rapidly embrace technological innovations
in the market. I must say that the company is lucky enough to have this kind of facility. This is really
necessary since they are dealing with paints, maximum quality assurance is a must.
8. Weak Points and Suggested Solutions

One of the weak points of the organization is related with advertising; absence of online
presence. Customers are expanding utilization of the Internet to think-tanks, discover their contact
data and peruse their inventories. Some conventional physical operations don't have an online
presence, for example, is found on sites or in person to person communication profiles, so it is hard
for potential clients to discover them. Also, the companys branding. Private companies may lose
clients if their rivals are on the web. Independent ventures have rivalry that may have preferred
marking and better notoriety over they have built up. This sort of shortcoming is predominant when
clients are now acquainted with a particular store or brand, and afterward a private venture makes
or offers a contending item or administration. Organizations with better brand acknowledgment,
and set up notorieties, see a higher rate of the piece of the overall industry, which is a potential soft
spot for a little operation.
Today's business world depends on innovation for everything from inventory management
to speaking with clients. At the point when a business utilizes obsolete innovation it can back off
profitability and add to the business losing cash. This is their weak point too. Then again, an
organization with a full staff that does not have the right skills and training important to perform
tasks can be a deterrent to an association. In the event that an organization needs to dispatch its
online networking presence, yet none of the staff has involvement in web-based social networking,
it can be a noteworthy soft spot for the organization. It is possible that they'll need to contract an
advisor, or hazard an unsuccessful online networking dispatch.
Since there is an Industrial Engineer in the company, I think he/she has the capability to
make changes but the problem is, the management doesnt implement the proposals. The
management should listen since the proposals have engineering basis.
V. RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Potential of the Company as a Training Ground

Availability and Appropriateness of Facilities, Equipment, and Machinery

The companys facilities have a direct connection to industrial engineering. Since the
company is a manufacturing plant, it has warehouse and production. The management is open
for us OJT to indulge within those areas in order for us to exercise our learning and in return, to
give the company their desired proposals for improvement. I could say that the facilities are
appropriate for us. When it comes to equipment, we used equipment from the laboratory in
which beyond our field of expertise but I am not against to it since it was a new learning and
experience for us. My only suggestion is, the company must create a concrete training
program for the future OJTs.

Company Personnel Cooperation

The personnel in the company are cooperative to us. They gave us information that we
need through interviews. They assisted us if we need help when it comes to our tasks and data
gathering by coordinating to the management.

B. Duration of Training

The trainees have only a month to finish the program. I think it is not enough especially
when you are tasked to solve the problems in the company. But when your mission is to have
training and exercise what you have learned and applying it, I think it is enough already.
C. Suggestions for the Improvement of the Training Program

Give adaptable learning alternatives. Advising all that they have to take part in all the more
learning and advancement exercises with their officially substantial workload frequently abandons
them feeling overpowered. Companies must react by embracing on-request and versatile
arrangements that make learning openings all the more promptly available for the people. Instruct
us to possess our career development. Very organized, one-estimate fits-all learning programs
don't work any longer. People should possess, self-direct, and control their learning fates. However
they can't do only it, nor do you need them to. The advancement and development of your ability
are imperative to the progressing achievement, capacity to enhance, and general efficiency.

Coordinate diverse learning alternatives to various learning styles. With five areas
effectively in the workforce, associations must rebuild the way representatives learn and the
devices and exercises they use to accurately coordinate the distinctive styles, inclinations, and
desires of employees. As leaders, we know the esteem our learning and advancement programs
convey to our associations. Be that as it may, we likewise need to guarantee we're accepting an
exceptional yield on venture. By obviously understanding the patterns rising in our learning and
improvement programs, they better position the organization to choose the privilege focused on
answers for drive comes about, increase trainee engagement, and increase development and
productivity
D. Advice to the Future On-The-Job Trainees

I might want to give basic counsel yet most likely to be useful hopefully for the future OJTs.
As another student, first you should know how to abide rules and directions of the organization you
are working with. Residing with the standards give you a trust from the organization you will work.
Be acquainted with various devices and hardware being utilized by the organization. Try not to be
reluctant in requesting that or make subsequent meet-ups if the assigned task given by the
supervisor is not clear to you. Continuously be prepared to takedown notes with the goal that you
can go back to the things that you ought to achieve once you get it. Utilize your time productively
and viably, ensure that for each errand being doled out there must be a decent outcome.
Continuously be on time and don't make absences particularly if the reason appears not valid.
Attendance on the work is vital especially if you are beginner. Notwithstanding, beside the
execution, most organizations consider being dependable to figure out if you are able to be as their
standard worker once you completed studying. This can give you open door for your future. Be
sufficiently mindful to conform to the obligations relegate by your supervisor. Be open to feedbacks
and criticism from your bosses and colleagues. The ideal approach to get the great side of your
managers in your internship is to dependably make a decent impression. People hate workers who
come in late. It is unfair for others who woke up earlier than you just to have the capacity to get to
the workplace on time. Supervisors likewise hate it when they are caught up with something and
afterward all of a sudden arrive behind schedule. On the off chance that you keep doing this, you'll
most likely get chided for your attitude.

On-The-Job Training

1. What do you expect to know and be able to do after the completion of the course?
I expect monitoring and evaluation. They are the fundamental piece of the formal internship
learning knowledge. The learning contract gives the OJT organizer, trainer, and us the students to the
chance to overhaul the internship whenever, with the goal for us to achieve the ideal learning
knowledge. Effective monitoring and assessment involve dynamic cooperation by the intern, employer,
and the coordinator.

This monitoring mode supports reflection about the learning background and welcomes us to
fundamentally consider the experience and to assess each learning objective laid out in the internship
goals. This strategy urges us to assess our involvement in a more analytical way, particularly in
connection to the setting of other life encounters, curriculum, and major field of study.

The internship learning taught us to document properly. The learning objectives are accomplished.
All components of the learning are all achieved. This permits us to survey our own progress, and
additionally permitting the supervisor to have the capacity to evaluate us.

2. What you already know and are able to do?

The most important thing I took from an internship is recently discovered knowledge, which
incorporates knowing how to satisfy assignments significant to the desired career path. That, as well as
the time honing and sharpening the aptitudes I already have . Communication is one of the keys to
success. A good communication channel guarantees that us, trainees get finished on time and
concerns or remarks are raised. It additionally ensures that everybody is doing their part and accepting
feedback.
Finally, a more noteworthy feeling of professionalism. Working in an office situation or any sort of
working environment can be hard. The best approach is to figure out how to explore the real world is
through hands-on experience. After the internship, I have now a better thought of the proper approach
to behave as a professional.
B. Student Philosophy

My Philosophy of being a Industrial Engineering Student

Generally, engineers take materials from the world and reshape them for the improvement of
humanity. This requires exertion and the utilization of consistent thought to fulfill an apparent need. As a
consistent procedure, as an IE, I am involved in formulation of ideas, the design of solutions and the
physical appearances of those solutions. IE uses resources that might be inactive, semi robotized or living
and it is driven by an intuition for survival, a requirement for security and longing to develop. IE is best of
both worlds; engineering and business.

Engineering is not easily applied or connected freely to any apparent need, yet should work inside
social limitations and stick to the good and moral principles of the general public in whose service is
utilized. Basically, to grasp on the more noteworthy importance of IE requires the advancement of
philosophical ideas, for example, a psychological consciousness of life, self, others and the outside world.
This should be mixed with a higher comprehension of science, the environment and society. What's more,
as society engineers, through the training, ought to get information of a feeling of obligation and humility.

On the off chance that engineers desire to really comprehend themselves, our calling and our part
in the society. I have to incorporate philosophy and maybe by that, I can enrich even this field by building
my own philosophy of engineering together with this obligation to serve the humanity through my
knowledge as long as I can.

Self-Assessment and Improvement

(Week 1 November 14, 16, 18 2016)

My on-the-job training is in a paint manufacturing plant located in Santolan,

Pasig City. They are producing different variants of paint products in the country. My
work starts at 7 am in the morning until 4 pm in the afternoon as what the HR
manager said. Every Monday, theyre having general assembly and this was also
the time that we were introduced to the employees of the company. The QC/QA
manager as the same time, our trainer assigned us to our respective departments
and I was assigned in QC/QA department. She (our trainer) introduced me again to
the employees within the department and she handed me over to one of the QC/QA
chemist (Sir Alex) to handle me.

The first thing I did was to explore the whole area, familiarizing myself to
every corner. The whole area is divided into two departments already namely the
QC/QA and the R&D laboratory. During my interview to Sir Alex, I was having a hard
time absorbing all the things he was saying. Paint production takes a lot of process;
it was confusing to my part due to the fact that, maybe, I am still new to the
company and to the paint industry.

Last Wednesday, November 16, I did some time and motion study to the
processes taking place in the department. It was hard, really hard and I think that
the most applicable method to be applied there is work sampling. I also observed
the process on how they do the quality checking of paints. They are using different
kinds of methods, equipment and apparatuses to determine the properties of paint.
I was able to experience on how to use those equipment and they taught me on
how to do the process of grind check and draw down. Also, the R&D chemist (Maam
Tinay) taught me on how to make new paint formulations. It was a very new
experience to me.

Friday, November 18, I helped Sir Alex on collating production files and
documents. He also taught me to do quality checking and reweighing of raw
materials so I can substitute him when he is busy. The R&D laboratory technician
(Sir Ian) taught me to how to create colours of paint. It was critical to do because a
person must have a good sense of sight to determine different contrasts of colours
if the desired output of colour is already achieved or not.

Self-Assessment and Improvement

(Week 2 November 21, 23 2016)

During this week, our trainer decided to do some changes because of our
suggestions. Instead of rotation, we were paired and one product line was assigned
to each. I and my classmate were assigned in the production of water based paint.
We need to do a time and motion study of all the processes from raw materials to
finished goods. We failed to get the time consumed of getting the raw materials
because they raw materials needed were already delivered. So we started on the
loading of raw materials into the fixed tub. We need to wait and record all the
activities of the batcher. The allowance factor and downtimes are needed in the
computation of standard time in time and motion study.

Patience is also a virtue. We monitored every single movement of workers of

the area assigned to us. We did that just to get the necessary data for the report. It
was tiring actually because we stood all day but it was still an okay. We noticed
some issues and concerns that need an immediate action because it can affect the
product. Sometimes, people in the higher position neglect the needs. It must be
explained to them thoroughly so they can fully understand. The changes made are
based on engineering principles.

(Week 3 November 28, December 2, 2016)

Most of the groups remained to their assigned tasks but I and my classmate
were moved out for a new task. We were assigned in the filling area and warehouse.
As usual, we need to do a time and motion study of the process and monitor the
workers in that area. Also, find some issues and concerns, if there are any. The
ground floor is composed of filling area and warehouse. The whole area is
unorganized and messy which is supposed to be not like that compared to the ideal
manufacturing area. Due to the fact that theres limited space, they will just put the
finished goods to be delivered anywhere as long as there are little spaces available.
Pipes from mixing tubs are just hanging freely with no warning signs so workers
frequently hit by these hanging pipes.

I also noticed some concerns to the workers working in that area. They do not
wear any safety equipment. Since theyre handling paint, I think they should use
thicker gloves. Gloves can prevent any foreign objects from the hands that may be
transferred to the product. Theres also poor lighting in the area. It can really affect
the visibility of the workers. Insects are also concerned in that area. Mosquitoes are
everywhere. Safety concerns can be raised here.

(Week 4 December 7, 9, 10 2016)

This week is the compilation of reports such as daily accomplishments of

workers, productivity reports and others. These are to be presented to the company.
For the past three weeks, weve been assigned in the different areas. This is for us
to be familiarized in the plant area. The supervisor also did some rotations and
reshuffles for us to experience other areas. We used the opportunity also so we
could get enough data for our thesis.

We only have three days to finish all the reports. So our supervisor let us stay
in an empty conference room. She told us to bring our laptops for the compilation of
reports. We were able to sum all the data but it took time because of the encoding.
We were also able to reflect what we did throughout the week. Though tired yet it
was good to experience all of it. It was a great for me because I felt the real glimpse
of industry world.

(Week 5 December 12, 14 2016)

Maam Rej, the process engineer asks our supervisor if she can be joined by
three OJTs to assist her in making further improvements in the warehouse area. I
was been chosen, together with my other two classmates to join her. The first thing
we did is we planned what we were going to do. Another classmate of mine joined
us also. We divided and distributed the tasks. The area is too large to be handled so
we need to do that.

We did interviews first to the workers there. We asks questions about the
problems; mostly occurring in their specific designations. We also observed how
they do the inventory checking and encoding. We included the dispatching area in
our analysis. There might have some problems there that could affect the whole
operation. Its difficult to solve the problems because we were given short time. I
think deeper analysis is needed so the process engineer told us to do some
proposals in the facility layout instead.

(Week 6 January 9, 11, 13, 14 2017)

We already started second week of January. We received the news that fire
occurred in the packaging area of the company. I never wondered anymore because
that area is composed of very light materials such as carton boxes, plastic and tin
cans for paint containers. There are some chemical powders in that area that
probably caused an explosion and turned into a fire. The company did whole
inventory checking that took a week to finish. The operations are temporarily
stopped because there was no electricity in the plant. They dedicated this week for
cleaning.

I was assigned in the warehouse inventory. I assisted the workers by listing

the item name, counting the number of stocks and putting the products in racks. I
assisted them also in the dispatching. I noticed that they dispatch the items late
already. They told me that it was because of the delayed production. Then, I did
some encoding for both the inventory and dispatching. Its a lot of paper works
because of the number of orders. Because of this, my typing skills improved. Then
for the last day for this week, we already finalized our proposals for the warehouse.

(Week 7 January 16, 18, 20, 21 2017)

For this week, I was assigned in QC/QA to assist them especially the QC/QA
Chemist. There were a lot of batches to be produced that day. Before the mixing
process, raw materials as the pre-requisite should be checked first. The QC/QA
chemist gave me a new task since he couldnt handle it anymore because he was
too busy. My task is to check the raw materials specifically the weights if it is correct
or not. Too much weight or less has a huge impact on the quality of the product so
the checker must be really careful. It was a nice experience to me. I learned how to
do the quality checking, the indicators or must observed to determine the quality of
raw materials. It improved my solving mathematical number problems mentality
because I need to do it fast.

For Wednesday and Friday, I assisted the workers in the 3 rd floor. It is the raw
materials area. Most of the raw materials are in powder form and weighs 25
kilograms and above. A lot of containers are also there, liquid chemicals. It is a bit
dusty in that area. In the morning, they already preparing the materials as stated on
the batch ticket. What I did is I am the checker if the raw materials weight is correct.
Our work finished before noon so sometimes I go to the QC/QA lab to assist them
there.

(Week 8 January 23, 25 2017)

Our supervisor assigned me to do clerical works. Clerical workers

perform administrative and other basic tasks in an office, such as answering
the phone and sending out memos. Clerical works perform a variety of duties
that can change throughout the day. Typical duties of a clerical worker can
include entering data into a computer, filing records, sending and receiving
faxes, answering telephone calls, and relaying messages. In my case, I just
did the QC/QA reports and inventory. Depending on the industry, clerical
works might perform tasks specific to that company. For example, clerks
employed in a manufacturing company might assist in filling work orders or
stamping envelopes for mass mailings which I can relate.

I noticed that some entry-level clerical duties are sometimes limited to

answering phones and taking messages. More experienced positions require
clerical staff to arrange travel, maintain office equipment, maintain inventory
and perform data entry which the IE in the company was doing. Clerical staff
directs visitors and delivery personnel to the proper location within the
business. The most important duty is to support the staff, so faxing
documents, preparing items for mailing, filing and retrieving documents and
typing correspondence are also required. The most experienced clerical staff
also act as supervisors.

(Week 9 February 3, 4 2017)

This week is the continuation of what I am doing in week 8. The documents to

be filed and collated are too many. I am also doing this also to compute for the
productivity which we will be using in our thesis. It will be a win-win situation for
both of us; the company and us. I learned that there are a few basic skills that
anyone interested in clerical work needs to know. They are also essential for entry-
level positions in most offices, regardless of the field. If you are looking for a job as
a data entry clerk, receptionist, administrative assistant, or something similar, make
sure you have these basic skills.

Jobs that call for typing skills usually expect you to type around 60 words per
minute with very few errors. I can say that I could do that. If you use the "hunt and
peck" method of typing, this probably sounds impossible. But there are lots of free
typing tutorials available on the web that teach how to type using all the fingers,
and now is a great time to learn. I only type using my two index fingers but despite
of this, I can still type fast. With a little practice, I want to surprise myself how fast I
can actually type.

Self-Assessment and Improvement

(Week 10 February 6, 8, 10, 11 2017)

This week was still a continuation. We are now doing reports for three (3)
departments. They are the QC/QA, inventory and the Sales. Alphabetical filing may
seem simple, but a surprising number of people have trouble with it. To file
alphabetically, you need to know two things: the alphabet, and that when two file
names start with the same letter, you have to look at the next letter to see which
goes first. Thanks that there are word and excel. Microsoft Word is the word
processing program used in most offices. It has more features than most people use
regularly, such as mail merge, but all of its features are useful to know. Microsoft
Excel is the spreadsheet program used in most offices. Like Word, it has more
capabilities than most people ever learn, including some very useful ones like
graphing and pivot tables.

Clerical work generally involves day-to-day office tasks. In our case, entering
data into spreadsheets. These tasks may be performed by secretaries, office clerks
and administrative assistants. Particularly when most information was recorded on
paper, businesses needed people, clerics, to make sure that the information could
be accessed. A record that cannot be found can become a problem. In a highly
technological world where information is more easily stored in electronic form and
therefore more easily accessed through computer search, the process of filing and
retrieving takes up much less of a time.

Self-Assessment and Improvement

(Week 11 February 13, 15 2017)

This is my last week of my OJT. I had few clerical works left so I finished those
within the day. The QC/QA also asked us if we could help them because of the staff
there was absent. Aside from that, I have a lot of thoughts about what I did
especially clerical works. These days, it's all but impossible to work in an office if
you don't have basic computer skills. Nearly every set of clerical jobs I come across
requires the employees to, at the very least, be able to turn on a computer and
navigate its operating system. Many clerical jobs will require a basic knowledge of
Microsoft Word, the most popular word processing program on the market. Word is
capable of a wide variety of functions which can take years to lean but don't let that
get you down. Most of Word's most vital and most oft-used functions can be learned
in just a couple of hours.

It also requires knowledge of creating spreadsheets, which simulate paper

worksheets and have multiple mathematical functions built in. Again, Microsoft
technology is the most common here, as Excel (an integral part of Microsoft Office,
which also includes Word, as well as a host of other business applications) is most
often used to create spreadsheets. Through this OJT, I think it enhanced my
computer skills when it comes to filing documents.
