Rules: revised 7-12-2010
1 Games are played with 5 players.   Teams may play fewer than 5 players if they do not have 5 players present.
2 All rosters are set before the tournament. No switching teams or additions. The only exception is if a team has less
than 5 players on a given night They are allowed to slide one player from another team roster. The person
substituting to a different team must only play for that team that night
3 There is not a limit to the number of players on each team roster. (last year limit 8)
4 All teams must have at least one female on roster and play each game. However if the female(s) is absent one night,
the team will not be penalized if they are unable in good faith to find an alternate to substitute.
5 Teams can rotate players within a game, however rotations must stay consistent per game (i.e. With 6 players, one
rotates out at one position. W/ 7 players 2 rotate out at one position) The rotation positions cannot change during the
game.
6 Female doesn't have to be on court at all times, as long as she is rotating regularly.
7 If teams have their entire roster present, they can elect to sit players out for specific games to limit the number of
players that are rotating in.
8 The team captains shall notify the other team captain the team lineup at the beginning of the game. No substitutions
during a game after the line up for the game is set. The only exception may be for an injury or if a player on the roster
is missing at the start of the game and the other team is notified that the player will be late before the game begins.
9 All games are standard side out scoring to 21 and must win by 2 points.
10 Each round will last 30 minutes and will need to start promptly at designated time.
11 Last year---5 minutes before scheduled completion time, games will start rally scoring until completion. Rally scoring
starts with the next serve after being notified. NO MORE RALLY SCORING
12 If the game is not completed at the end of the 30 minute completion time, then the winner is the team with the most
points at that time… If the game is tied at the completion of 30 minutes, the game will continue for one more point. The
winner is decided by who wins the next point. (last year- as long as it is a 2 point margin. Then the first team with a 2
pt margin wins. )
13 Teams will switch sides after the first team reaches 10 points
14 Let Serves are in play
15 Net touches and interference under the net are side out.
16 Below waist hits (kicking) of the ball are legal
17 Carries will be on the honor system and should be called by offending team
18 Stray balls hit from the other court, can be called a LET (dead ball) and replay the serve.
19 Balls hit on the poles, fence or chairs outside of the courts are considered to be out of bounds.
20 All teams must have a designated captain for any rule clarifications and disputes
21 Home Teams will have choice of which side of the court to start.
22 Any infraction that is not in the SPIRIT OF THE GROWLER, can resort to dismemberment or banishment of said party
and the culprit may be penalized by playing beer maid for the opposing team.
