MENTAL HYGIENE

It consists of measures to reduce the incidence of mental illness through


prevention and early treatment and to promote mental health. (Singh & Tiwari,
1972)

It focuses on:
a. Maintaining positive mentality;
b. Discover techniques to keep person healthy.

MENTAL HYGIENE AND THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

Mental hygienists viewed the educational system as a promising venue for


preventive activities. During the 1930s they successfully influenced teacher
education programs to include developmental psychology.

IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HYGIENE

As teaching-learning process is in need of high mental presence and cognitive


effort, it is important to find out the real factors behind the mental illness, seen
among the teachers and learners to provide a better learning environment for
learners who are regarded to be the center of the classroom.
