to become acquainted with technological trends that are not part of regular academics. It also
provides opportunities to its members to get involved in the management of the Association.
ACM Chapter has become an essential part of all kinds of programming, software, gaming and
quiz competitions organized in the university.

national and local competitions in the fields of software projects, software quiz, programming
and gaming. In doing so, it has received participants from countries in the region and from
major educational institutions in Pakistan. The successful holding and completion of these events
has only added to the growing fame of NUCES-ACM as being the premier ACM Chapter in the
country.

NUCES in Lahore.
According to Badar Khushnood, the Pakistan Consultant for Google Inc. the Google Mapping
Party was being held to take stock of what has been accomplished so far and to highlight the
opportunities that lie ahead. The announcement for the event which was organized by the FAST
Lahore ACM chapter in collaboration with Google (P@SHA supported the event) was indeed
tempting. Lots of youngsters have registered for the event. Amongst them were two young
Pakistanis from the UK Faraz Ahmad, a 26 year old programmer living in Glasgow and Jabran
Rafique, an IT Administrator.
In 2011 a Geek Week (BETA) on a low scale had been held by NUCES-ACM mainly sponsored
by OSM invention. Participation was mainly within the university and participation ratio was
larger than expected. It comprised of Coding Competitions, Gaming and a very interesting
CUSTOM PC competition. A workshop by OSM Invention was also a major attraction for
students.

Regular workshops are being held throughout summer or winter semester breaks associated with
the various electives in Information technology.

Asia Cup
The Asia Cup is an International Distributed Programming Competition which will be hosted at

networking available at their disposal. Moreover, the intention was to bring the curriculum into
practical application thus presenting a challenging environment for strengthening skills. The
competition will test the ability of time and stress management of the participants and help in
sharpening the respective skills.
Programming competition will provide the participants an opportunity to test their knowledge
implementation and enhance their skills. The event will also create a sense of competition among
the regional ACM bodies. Each team will practice to surpass the other and take over the field
which will further intensify the learning activity and performance caliber. Programming
competition planned for the event of Geek Week will follow the format previously adopted in the
ALDPC held in 2009. The chapters constituting the Lahore ACM body will be connected with
high performance networking tools available & merging the ideas with FAST-NU hosting the

Technology Showcase
We intend to present our audience with a platform where they can showcase their talent with the
devices they had been tweaking. Using technology is more fun when you can identify and get
into the core of the gadget. The trend of techno-freaks playing with their gadgets is currently
towards a hike. Tapping onto that section of the participating teams we allow them to exhibit
their hacks and modifications in front of an enthusiastic audience and get acclaimed by our
honorable judges from the industry.
Participants can present their tweaks, hacks and other techno-cool stuff (not applications)
that they made on their existing devices such as kinnect, ipads etc. This will be a platform for the
youngsters to showcase their talent. The participants would be required to submit the abstracts
which will describe their hack/tweak on the basis of which we will shortlist the participants who
will be invited to exhibit their discovery. The judges from industry will evaluate the participants
on the basis of quality and the utility of the product. This event is bound to promote NUCES
ACM in the field of technology.
This needs skills hacking your mind to come up with breaking new functionality or a feature
which will have high utility and finding features that are even unknown to the maker/developer
of the product. You can extend the existing products and use the existing ones to develop a new
product. It will provide the opportunity to get acknowledged for the effort and become a source
of inspiration for others. The participants should belong to some educational institute.
Potential Involvement:

At this juncture is another interesting feature of GEEK WEEK12. The participants would be
encouraged to decorate, draw, paint or design the logo of ACM using their creative skills. They
are allowed to develop ideas from the existing logos of ACM. The submissions will be accepted
in the form of canvas, digital copy, paper or cardboard. Participants would be judged upon their
innovation and presentation of the product.
These Designs would be placed for exhibition in the campus throughout the event of GEEK
