Comparing and Contrasting

Materials Needed:
Two articles about a similar topic
Two folders
One labeled Article A
One labeled Article B
Different colored markers
A basket

Directions:
1. Split the group into two even teams
2. One team takes article A and one team takes article B
a. DONT LOOK AT THE OTHER TEAMS ARTICLES
3. Both teams read the article at least once for comprehension.
4. Once everyone is finished, everyone gets a small stack of paper and
a marker
a. Team One gets the blue markers
b. Team Two gets the red markers
5. Set the timer for ten minutes
6. During the ten minutes, youre trying to find as many FACTS about
your topic as possible
a. One fact per piece of paper
b. IT MUST BE IN THE ARTICLE
7. Once the timer finishes, its time to figure out the points. Team Two
shares its facts with Team One. Every fact is worth one point. If Team
One has a fact thats the same as Team Two, then match those two
facts up, put it in the bucket, and no one gets a point.
a. For example, if Team One read an article about cats and Team
Two read an article about dogs, and they both put has four
legs as their fact no one gets a point.But if only one team write
has four legs then that team gets the point. The team with the
most number of points wins!
