Title and Date- League City council members vote to fire city manager, December 14, 2016
Summary- This article is discussing the firing of a member in the government of league city. In
the city council meeting in December, they voted to fire the city manager Mark Rohr. Votes came
up 5-3 after a six hour meeting. The reason Rohr was supposed to be fired was because of many
conflicts between the city mayor, Pat Hallisey, my mentor. Hallisey argued that Rohr was not
communitive. Rohr continuously tried to turn all of city council against the mayor during the city
council meetings. Rohr tried saying that Hallisey was discussing private information of the
government to people. During the meeting Hallisey called him out and said that Rohr was still
angry about the mayors election because he openly supported his opponent. A new city manager
has just been placed in office to fulfill Rohrs place.
Connection- This is relevant to my topic because its about my mentor. Its discussing the conflicts
that an elected official might face. Its suggesting that people might try and turn other against you
when youre elected for a job. This article is also discussing how the different jobs in the
government work together. In the duration of a conflict, city government is able to come together
and discuss their issues until they find a solution. The prime goal of city government is to keep
the city running smoothy and efficiently which is hard to do when there are conflicts. The article
states "My concern was to uphold the charter and to see that council's own rules are observed to
ensure the smooth operation of the city government. It was the right thing to do then and it still is
the right thing to do." This is a prime example that the government must work together in order
to be proactive.

Personal- This article angered me a little bit. Knowing my mentor, who is very compassionate,
was being bombarded with false acquisitions is ridiculous. My mentor has worked hard for his
job and for someone to try and take it away from him without reasonable cause makes me mad.
The article states Hallisey had previously maintained that Hallisey had previously maintained
that Rohr was consistently non-communicative with the mayor and City Council, while Rohr
countered that the mayor's actions were often in conflict with the council-manager form of
government, in which the city manager runs the city's daily operations. This is stating the
ridiculous assumptions Rohr made towards Hallisey in order to get him fired from his position as
mayor. After reading this article, I did feel more secure towards the city government. It
made me realize how hard they work together in order to keep peace in our city. Even if
firing a man from his position in office.
