Professional Nursing 3 was the final course in the progression of Professional

courses which continued to enhance our principles and practices of

rehabilitation and health promotion in the care of patients with both acute
and chronic health needs. The theory of this course placed a focus on many
different large body systems such as the Neurological, cardiovascular,
immunologic, and endocrine systems. This course focused on the
development of critical thinking, ethical decision making, and therapeutic
interpersonal skills in managing the care of patients with acute, chronic, and
rehabilitative health needs. During my time in the clinical setting for this
course I was encouraged by the staff and my instructor to grow as a nurse by
operating with more self-direction and decision making in regard to patient
treatment and care. This allowed for the development of my leadership,
managerial and communication skills even further after beginning to
collaborate in care during Professional Nursing 2. During this clinical we are
also expected to apply theories and research findings from nursing and other
disciplines to provide evidence-based, clinically competent care. My clinical
experience at St. Josephs on a telemetry unit provided me with a higher
acuity of patients than I had dealt with before and this experience allowed
me to continue to grow in as a nurse. I began to take more initiative with my
patient and their care while also initiating more cross communication among
other disciplines which typically collaborate with nursing. This is where I truly
developed my voice and learned to never back down when acting on behalf
of the patient, with their health outcome as your driving motivation.

This was also the clinical where I learned lead placement as snow over
grass, smoke over fire Brown is the odd man out in the middle, and black
is on the same side as pt. heart (coincidentally, the first patient I placed
these leads on was truly quite rude).
