Nursing Transitions is a course designed to make the transition from a Student

Nurse to a Registered Nurse slightly more comfortable and seamless. This course
focused specifically on encouraging students to become leaders amongst their
peers and other healthcare professionals while developing the autonomy and
collaborative balance required of any staff-nurse. These interactions are necessary
to ensure positive, fluent care is provided to the patient regardless of shift turnover
and transition in who is caring for the patient. This is facilitated through education
and training on priority setting, communication (both patient and inter-staff),
leadership, team building, and delegation when managing the care for the assigned
group of patients. This courses clinical component consists of a 120 hour
minimum preceptorship which provided the opportunity for the development of the
skills listed above. After completion of our preceptorship we are expected to show
the basic nursing competencies expected of entry-level staff-nurses, which is also
an indication of the NCLEX-RN. This course also discusses the nurses legal and
ethical responsibilities at great length in lecture to ensure the nurse understands
the gravity of having a license on the line, and what actions or ethically and legally
acceptable or not acceptable.
