Standard Four

I perform morning duty every morning as well as bus duty in the

afternoons. These things are important as an administrator because it allows

you to interact with the students and the community on a daily basis. Being

visible allows for communication amongst the administrator and the

community to be smooth. I also was about to shadow the principal handle a

conflict with a student in regards to a teacher I learned the importance of

staying neutral because the principal represent the students and the

teachers. I put these hours in Standard 4 because all of these things deal

with the culture of the school.

I also completed a pre survey for my project on All in Learning. I put

these hour in standard 4 as it pertained to the climate and culture of the

classroom and school. As I looked at the results of the survey I was shocked

to see the number I students that want to be engaged in the lesson but for

whatever reason cannot seem to be able to focus. I am hoping that my

research shows that All in Learning is a great way to increase the student

engagement. As a principal I am going to use surveys a lot as a way to get

the pulse of my campus from all stakeholders.

2/6/17 2/10/17: At a meeting with my principal this week, I realized that I will be

charged to create a campus culture team. So this week I began planning and recruiting for the

new team. Our goal will be to remove the red strikes from our Fall Climate Survey and move

them to at minimum yellow (40% favorable at least). I placed these hours and standard four

because as you do with the schools culture. This will give me a lot of experience in both
executive leadership as well as school climate and culture, however, not to mention I will have to

know some procedural things as well. Overall, I am excited to begin this new committee.

2/14/2017: My Campus Culture Team put together its first Small Tokens for Morale and

distributed them amongst the staff. What I learned was that it is important to give all of the staff

and not just the teachers small tokens of appreciation because it takes all of the adults in the

building to help with the education of young people. These hours went under Standard 4 because

it deals with the culture and climate of the school

2/15/2017: Met with the math department to discuss how we would spend the remaining amount

of money in our budget. We decided that we have enough resources and that the remaining of the

budget should go towards supplies for the students such as dry erase markers and pencils. I

realized the importance to have buy in from the teachers as it relates to what they need to be

success in the classroom. I put these hours in Standard 5 as it relates to operational items.

2/16/2017: Today I had my first Campus Culture Team meeting. I learned that it is important to

have an agenda and to stick to the agenda in a meeting because adults can get very off task. It is

also important to make value of the time and to try to get quality work done. I place the hours in

Standard 4 because the team deals with school culture.

3/20/2017-3/24/2017: I created a survey for the staff to take in order to collect data on if the

campus climate teams initiatives have been working. I asked an assistant principal to assist me

with the survey so that I could be able to format the questions in such a way that we get accurate

results. After a few days, I reviewed the data in order to prepare for the next campus climate

team meeting. The data shows small gains in all four areas of concentration. Since the survey is

dealing with culture I placed these hours in Standard 4.
