dribbling during the entire lesson. (S1.E17.3; MACF 2.2) (Taught: all; Assessed: Closure)

Check each objective: Is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?

TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:

1. Give at least 3 specific positive feedback and 3 corrective feedback statements.

2. Demo for all activity.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
Stress the importance of safety and spacial awareness, especially when students are moving
around with other students around them; students will be vulnerable to keep their heads down
so encourage them to keep their heads up while traveling and dribbling.
Keep an eye on Jackson, seems to be aggressive with other students in class.

CFU:
30 sec Ask the students to repeat the teacher's
expectations for class

Warm up: Dribble Tag

3 min (teaching style - practice)

Students will participate in a game of freeze tag

while dribbling a ball under control while trying
to stay away from the taggers. Both taggers and
non-taggers will be dribbling. If the tagger tags
someone, the person must freeze and hold their
ball above their head to show everyone that
they're frozen and need help getting unfrozen. A
30 sec non-tagger must come over and high five a
frozen dribbler to become unfrozen.

Demo: Teachers will ask a student to

demonstrate for the class

Informing: Dribbling (with hands)

Knees slightly bent
Use finger pads
Head up

Activity 1: Spell Craze

10 min (teaching style - practice)
Students will be in groups of 3. There will be
different posters with different words taped on
the boundary walls. Students will stand in a
circle with their groups standing still, the teacher
will call out a word that is posted somewhere on
the wall. When the word is called out, for
example: Journey the students of each group
will go around the court and look for the poster
with the word Journey on it. When they find it
they will take it down and bring it back to their
group circle. Each group only needs 1 poster of
each word. If 2 members of the same group
bring back the same word, one of them must
bring it back to the middle so the other groups
can get it. Students will return to their group
circle when completed and wait for the next
word to be called.
Extension down: Students may have to walk or
move at a slow pace in order to control the ball
Extension Up: Encourage students to try using
their non-dominant hand if they are doing really
well.

CFU:
The teacher will ask the students to repeat the
rules of the activity and what to do when they
30 sec find a word.

Transition: From the Activity 1 to sit down

around the teacher for the miniclosure

miniclosure:
What did this activity force you to do with your
head?
Why is it important to keep your head up when
dribbling?
- Keep it up
Circles = student teams
- So you do not run into anybody, use the
space around you Rectangles = word posters

- Demo if necessary
10 min - Pinpoint if appropriate

Activity 2: Individual Capture the Flag

(teaching style - practice)
Eah student will have their own ball, own
hula hoop and own 1 bean bag. The bean
bag will start in the hula hoop and on the
teachers go signal the students will go
around the court and try to steal the bean
bags out of other people's hula hoops. The
students has to dribble to another hoop, pick
up a bean bag and return it to their own
hoop. The goal is for the students to collect
as many bean bags in their hoop as possible
circles= students hoop
by the time runs out.
Extension up: encourage advanced students
to use their non-dominant hand
Extension down: Students can use an easier
ball if they are struggling

CFU: ask the students to repeat the rules of

the activity, review dribbling skill cues

Demo: Ask a student pair to demonstrate the

activity for the group

30 sec Transition: students will return to meeting

spot for a miniclosure

1 min Miniclosure:
How many bean bags did everyone end up
with?
What was challenging about this activity?
- Answer can vary
- Keeping head up, dribbling at
different levels

Activity 3: Dribble Relay

(teaching style - practice)

6 min The students will be in teams of 2-3

students. Each team will have 1 ball. The
students will be lined in on the baseline, one
teammate behind each other. The teacher
will give a dribbling command, like speed
dribble, and the 1st partner will have to
dribble to the middle of the court and back,
hand the ball of to their partner, and their
partner will then have to do the same thing.
The teacher is looking for quality of the
dribbling, not how fast the students can get it
done. If there are 2 people in the group, the
group will decide 1 of the people to go twice
for that round to even out for the groups of 3.
Extension up: Students can try moving at a
faster pace or using their non-dominant hand
Extension down: student can try focusing on
maintaining their dribble rather than trying to
steal other people's ball at the same time.
Examples of tasks:
Speed dribble
dominant hand dribble
Non-dominant hand dribble
Walk backwards dribble
etc.

CFU: ask the students to repeat the rules of

the activity and dribbling skill cues

Demo: ask a student pair to demonstrate for

the class

Closure:
Was today's dribbling activities easy or
difficult?
Which activity was most challenging?
What are the dribbling skill cues?
*ask class to demonstrate dribbling
- Vary
- Dribble knockout - implement
dribbling and stealing @ same
time
- Bend knees, fingerpads, head up
Assessment: psychomotor (attached)
The students will exhibit their feelings about
their homeschool experience for the past 6
weeks.
