FOCUS:Ball and Dribble Skills
EQUIPMENT: 20 Basketballs, 1 Speaker

STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO)

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

(P): Practice dribbling with hands by using at least 2/4 critical elements 80% of the time during activity 1 and 3.
(S1.E17.3), (2.2)

(C): Understand the importance of practicing basketball handling skills by engaging in the turn in talk after
activity 2. (S3.E3.3), (2.2)

(A): Participate in class safely by keeping your head up and watching where you’re moving while dribbling with
hands and not bumping into any class mates 100% of the time during all activities. (S4.E1.3), (9.3)

Student Assessment
Students will be given an informal assessment at the end of class by indulging in discussion and each student will give a
demonstration on how to properly overhand throw.

TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES –

During the lesson the teacher will:

1. Create a safe environment for the students by explaining the safety rules at least twice throughout the entire lesson.

2. Create an encouraging environment for students by giving specific positive feedback to each individual student at least
2 times throughout the entire lesson.

0-4.00 Instant Activity
● Students will come into the gym and
find their own open space and sit
down. Attendance will be taken and
students will do their warm up (Fun
Fitness) Once over students will have
a minute and a half of relaxation.

4.00- Transition
4.30 ● Students will be called up by squad to
grab a ball and find their own open
space. Students will take 3 steps away
from their ball and take a seat.
4.30- Introduction
6.00 ● Today is our second day of basketball.
Our goal is to practice dribbling and
our handling skill. So we can work
towards 2 ball dribbling to practice
for our upcoming assessment.

RREs
● Remind students the stop and go
signals are either “GO”, “FREEZE”,
or to listen when the music starts or
stops. When the teacher indicates any
stop signal, students will take their
basketball and place it at their feet.
● Tell students that we are not shooting
today and that the basketball should
never be thrown at the hoops or at
each other.
6.00- Transition
6.00 ● Students will stand up with their
basketball.
6.00- Activity Part 1
11.00 ● Students will start with a quick
dribbling warm up. They are allowed
to dribble any way they want in the
gym.
● They need to keep their eyes and head
up looking forward to assure that they
don’t bump into anyone.
● If they lose their ball and it rolls away
they need to be present with their
surroundings and not aimlessly chase
the ball looking down.
11.00- Activity Part 2
22.00 ● Students will be listening and
following directions for the different
ball handling skills.
○ Ball Slaps- alternating hands
○ Hot Potato- changing levels
from head to waist
○ Ball Wraps- ankles, waist,
head, changing directions
○ Figure 8s between legs
○ Switcheroo- stationary, one
bounce, in air
○ Impossible catch- clapping
and no clapping
● Disussion questions:
○ Turn and talk with your
partner on why it is important
for us to practice these ball
handling skills. Come up with
3 ideas..
Transition
● On go students will find their own
line in the gym
22.00- Activity Part 3
28.00 ● Students will find a line and practice
stationary dribbling on that line. They
will use their dominant hand first and
do a cross over to the other hand
everytime they hear the word switch.
● Skill Cues:
○ Ready Position
○ Push
○ Eyes Forward
○ Keep Ball In Front of Body.

Part 2
● Students will be at their same line.
They will have the line inbetween
their legs and practice crossover
dribbling back and forth trying to aim
for the middle line.
N/A Bonus Activity
● Students will be placed with a partner
and work on 2 ball dribbling. Partners
who aren’t dribbling will be giving
feedback to their partner. They will
also help them set up the dribbles.
