Dear Mrs.

Intawiwat

The semester is almost over and the two of us will soon be moving on to new beginnings.

For me Ill be moving on to another English class with a different instructor and you will have a

class full of new eager minds to instruct and direct. When I signed up for this class I thought all I

would be doing is writing essays, but to my surprise we did much more than that. As I reflect

back through the sixteen weeks of the semester we did a variety of challenging, thought

provoking, yet fascinating assignments. We were tasked with Written Literacy, Visual/Oral

Literacy, Digital Literacy, and Pop Culture. All culminated into an E-Portfolio.

Written Literacy

The first project you introduced to us was written literacy in which we had to write an

essay. The title of the essay was I Believe. I wrote about how I believe on getting away from

bad influences and how they affect people mentally and emotionally. The purpose of writing this

essay was to educate other woman about the dangers of being involve in a bad relationship and

list options on how to be freed from them. This project reflected on rhetorical knowledge

Visual/Oral Literacy

The second project was about Visual/Oral Literacy. We learned about Ethos, Logos, and

Pathos and how it is used in advertisements to persuade the consumers to want a certain product.

Then we went on to observing and taking notes, we went outside the campus to watch people and

take pictures, we then made up a story of what we saw. I really enjoy this assignment because it

allow me to use my critical thinking skills to evaluate ideas and get them into writing. Last but

not least this topic also cover writing an ethnography about a particular subculture or cite this

assignment required studying about a subculture, interviewing and learning the point of view of
the people within that culture. I choose to write my ethnography about Social Media. One of the

main reasons was because social media is part of everyones life its hard not to find someone

that is not connected, therefore interviewing became an easy task, the difficult part was finding

academic source I learned that even though social media is a wide subject there is not many

academic sources to back you up. Just when I thought this topic was over I was introduced to

slam poems the watch some videos of some performance and you challenge us to write one. I

title mine Stop getting in my Life my slam poem refers to a life of a mother with a teenage boy

who doesnt want his mom to get in his life as quoted then his mom starts to tell him all she

went through for him and reminding everything shes done to keep him alive and that if anything

hes the one that got into her life not the other way around like he thinks. I was inspired to write

about this because its a common problem young woman face know in days, teenagers became

rebel without realizing the tremendous effect parent make for their children.

Digital Literacy

On the digital literacy topic you ask us to do a digital literacy narrative and a digital assignment,

a bit confusing at first but as you explain the difference it became compressive. The digital

Literacy narrative had to be about my experiences with digital technology. I had to use either

PowerPoint or Prezi.com after trying both I saw more advantages creating it using Prezi because

it offers different themes and arrangements. Along with the pictures of all the digital devices I

was knowledgeable of, I decided to add sound effects to make it more memorable. The digital

assignment thought me something how to do something I would see every day through the social

site; MEMEs I discover ways to create and slightly different things.

Pop Culture

In the pop culture topic we created a pop culture dictionary listing three words/terms including

the connotation, denotation, and writing a sentence. Honestly I had no clue of the purpose, but it

got me thinking thats for sure. When I least expected almost at the end of the semester the Zine

project was thrown right at us. Seriously those were my words I never thought I was going to

finish this on time, I was overwhelmed to hear all the requirement and the number of pages. But

like every challenge the bigger your challenge the bigger the opportunity you have to grow and

learn from the experience. Thats when I got to it, I then decided to make my Zine about Woman

and Guns I choose this subject because I feel that we have gone into a new generation and

woman became more independent therefore should be protected. My Zine contains articles about

the controversial behind a woman owning a weapon, reviews and peoples opinions,

advertisements about the process of how to obtain a concealed carry certification and lawfully

carry a handgun and how to carry without losing your fashion style by going out and buying

concealed carry tank tops, hand bag and other items. It also informs about the dos and donts of

having a weapon in your home, then came the horoscopes predicting your next firearm lastly is

the letter to the editor from a concern citizen. At the end it wasnt that hard after all. It was the

best of all the project.

I would like to thank you for being the greatest instructor I had this semester I learned many

things such as to read, write, listen, and observe in other ways than usual thanks for giving me

the opportunity to became a better person through you.

Sincerely,

Jennett Garcia
