1. OBJECTIVE
To standardize the procedure for CW Pump Startup &
changeover in 1x76MW CDQ Power plant.

1.1 FUNCTION/PURPOSE

1.1.1 Supplies cooling water to Condenser for Condensing exhaust


steam from turbine & to ACWP system .

2. SCOPE

This explains Starting, changeover operations of CW Pump.

3. RESPONSIBILITY

Shift in charge
Desk engineer
Field engineer

ANNEXURE-1

4.1 INTERLOCKS & PROTECTIONS

4.1.1 CW Pump-standby will pick-up if running pump trips.


4.1.2 CW Pump-A/B/C discharge valve starts closing if running pump
trips.
4.1.3 CW Pump-A/B/C trips if sump level LOW-LOW switch acts (2000
mm).
4.1.4 CW Pump-A/B/C trips if motor winding temperature is very high
(>120C).
4.1.5 CW Pump-A/B/C trips if bearing temperature is very high
(>85C).
4.1.6 CW Pump-A/B/C trips if bearing vibration is very high.
4.1.7 CW Pump stops if discharge pressure is >5KSC with time delay
of 40 Sec.

ANNEXURE 2

4.2 JOBS TO BE DONE IN SHIFT

4.2.1 Log and monitor the datas in log book-Field/Control room &
ensure that
Parameters are within norms as per given in annexure-1.
4.2.2 Check any abnormalities in local and inform shift in-charge for
trouble shooting.
4.2.3 During change over if discharge valve of started pump is not

Motor local/remote selection to local and open it.

Startup Procedure

4.3 ELECTRICAL CHECKS

4.3.1 Ensure for Breaker rack in & healthy condition.


4.3.2 Put Breaker in test mode and check whether it trips with
pressing of EPB.
4.3.2 Keep Breaker in Remote.

4.4 LOCAL CHECKS

4.4.1 CW Pump-A/B/C Suction MIV is in open condition.


4.4.2 CW Sump level is normal (i.e., 5000mm).
4.4.3 CW Pump-A/B/C discharge MOV is in close condition and
actuator power supply
Is ON & selection in REMOTE.
4.4.4 Condenser inlet & outlet MOV (both sides) to be kept in open
condition. Actuator
Power supply is ON & selection in REMOTE.
4.4.5 CW Pump discharge line vent is in crack open condition.
4.4.6 Condenser outlet Auto air release MIV is kept in open condition.
4.4.7 Ensure pump oil level healthiness
4.4.8 CW-6.6KV Bus-A/B is healthy and voltage is in positive side.

4.4.9 CW Pump 6.6KV circuit breaker healthy indication is glowing


after racked in.
4.4.10 Ensure the space heaters to be in off condition.
4.4.11 After starting the pump check the healthiness of the pump and
motor.
4.4.12 Closing of all vents.

ANNEXURE 4

4.5 Pump Change over Procedure

4.5.1 Ensure local and DCS checks before starting the pump.
4.5.2 Start the standby pump & ensure discharge valve MOV is
opening in auto.
4.5.3 Ensure discharge pressure is adequate (2.1 to 2.4 KSC), if not
adjust riser valve to
Maintain pump discharge pressure.
4.5.4 Ensure that vibration & current is normal.
4.5.5 Stop the running pump & keep in auto standby.
4.5.6 Ensure discharge MOV is closing after stopping the pump.

4.6 Pump Isolation

4.6.1 Ensure the standby pump mode selection to be made non stand
by.
4.6.2 Pump suction MIV & discharge MOV to be closed 100%.
4.6.3 CW Pump 6.6KV circuit breaker to be rack-out & Control power
supply made off.
4.6.4 Discharge MOV module to be made off.
4.6.5 Motor EPB to be pressed.
