Summary
As part of GVIs objective to coordinate 1 school holiday program for children in
the local community during the second quarter, GVI partnered up with the
local environmental organization Wildlife and
Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA).
Together with GVI volunteers, WESSA designed
and implemented environmental workshops as
part of our school holiday program. The
workshops focused on topics such as recycling,
life below water, pollution whilst organizing
excursions to explore the creatures at the local
beach.

Report
April started with two weeks of school holiday to give the teachers and children a
well-deserved break after completing their exam. This did however not stop GVIs
project to grow and prosper together with the children. As part of our holiday
program we offered the children from the local school to come and join us for the
two week break where our volunteers had organized fun, educational activities
for the children to engage in. In collaboration with the teachers, GVI scheduled
the program to include topics such as sports and exercise, gender equality, craft
and fine motor skills, surfing and their favorite, environmental education!

For the environmental education GVI Cape Town decided to partner up with the
well-known organization WESSA which is a leading implementer of high-impact
environmental and conservation initiatives in South Africa. WESSA joined the
two-week program by designing and delivering environmental education
workshop to the children who were participating in the program and discussed
topics such as recycling, pollution and life below water. Together with WESSA,
GVI took the children to Gordons Bay beach for a day excursion to explore the
creatures who lived in the waters, by the rocks and in the sand. After having

studied and talked about the nature and animals in the classroom, it was
fascinating to see the interest of the children and the knowledge they have
gained during the program.

What was amazing was to see was GVIs mission to build a global network of
people united by their passion to make a difference come to life. Not only does
GVI unite volunteers from all walks of life each day but to be able to bring the
community members from WESSA to join in this effort to make a difference for
the children was an achievement. Now, WESSA collaborates directly with the
local school which GVI introduced them to, to take the children to a wide range of
field excursions to learn about the environment in which we live. This
demonstrates that our impact is sustainable as GVI continues to assist our
partners to network with one another, a partnership which can continue into the
far future.
