1. Sengit According to what Ive
learned, the word sengit
here has different meanings.
Especially, we will find it in
sundanese and Indonesian
language. In sundanese, it is
written as seungit but people
there pronounce it sengit
that means wangi or
fragrant. To make it clearer,
we can look at these 2
examples below:
1. Sundanese : Kembang-
kembang eta meuni
seungit pisan! (Those
flowers smelt very
good)
2. Indonesian Language:
Persaingan
memperebutkan juara
Liga Inggris antara
Chelsea dan Arsenal
sangat sengit (The
competition to be a
winner of English
Premier League
2. Urang between Chelsea and
Arsenal is so strict)
The other word that exists
both in Javanese and
Sundanese is urang. Though
the way to pronounce it is
similar, they have different
meaning in use. In sundanese,
urang means aku
(posessive), but we will find it
actually in Javanese as udang
(shrimp). For the example:
3. Lebar 1. Sundanese : Eta bola
urang (That ball
belongs to me).
2. Javanese : Ibuku tuku
urang neng pasar (My
mother bought those
shrimps in traditional
market).
People who speak sundanese
consider the word lebar as
sayang. They use that word to
express their feeling when
they falling in love with
somebody. But it has another
meaning which is available in
Indonesian Language as well
that is lebar or wide.
Example of the sentences:
1. Sundanese : Maneh
lebar pisan ti anjeun (I
love you so much :*).
2. Indonesian Language :
Ruang kelasku lebih
lebar daripada kantor
kepala sekolah (My
class room is wider
than the headmasters
office).
