INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENTS

I will share with you a list of the more important international, environmental treaties. These are all
agreements between governments to control some aspect of environmental exploitation. Many of the
agreements are sponsored by the UN. The more important agreements are highlighted in red.

ASSIGNMENT
Select one of the more important international agreements (other than the Kyoto Protocol), one that
interests you, and prepare a poster summary for display. The probable information which should be
researched for the poster might include:
Date of the convention/treaty/protocol/agreement
Dates of revisions or modification or up-dates
Signatories and/or notable non-signatories
Problem which the convention/treaty/protocol/agreement addresses
Essential agreements which are contained in the convention/treaty/protocol/agreement
Important break-downs or failures in the convention/treaty/protocol/agreement
News-worthy information or media articles
Present status of the convention/treaty/protocol/agreement

You will find a great deal of information about most of the treaties and your biggest problem will be
analysing and sifting through this information, to find what is important.
