Lesson 3: Trim and Fillet

By Isidro V. Marfori III

I. Option feature of the command line

II. Trim
The trim command allows the user to remove or cut parts of an object such as lines, circle, arcs, and splines. The trim
command works by identifying two at least two objects. One object serves as the reference point where the other object
is to be cut. The following are procedures in trimming an object.

1. Click the trim icon or

type tr and press enter

2. Select object to be cut and reference objects intersecting the object to be cut.

3. Select the parts of the object to be cut.

4. Once finish selecting press enter. The result will be as follows.

Note:
In trimming, you should always select two or more
objects. A single object cannot be trimmed since
AutoCAD cannot identify a reference point where
an intersection meets to cut the object.
III. Fillet
Fillet is used to create arc with specific radius with two objects. The objects can be two unparallel lines, two circles,
or one line and a circle. The following are procedures in creating fillet.

1. Select the fillet icon or

Type f and press enter.

2. From the options of the trim command in the command line, select radius to set the fillet radius. Therefore, type
r and press enter.
As default, AutoCAD sets the fillet radius to 0.

3. Type the fillet radius and press enter. In this case type 14 and then press enter.

4. Select the first object by clicking approximately at the top of the

perimeter of the circle at the left.

5. Select the second object by clicking approximately at

the top of the perimeter of the circle at the right.

6. The result will be as follows.
