Field Development Planning

Genesis is a world leader in Field Development Planning and has

worked on more frontier developments immature regions, difficult
fluids, deep water, mega-projects, and remote locations than any other
consultant, engineering firm or operator

Field development planning studies provide the necessary information and advice for:
establishing whether or not a project is economic
short-listing development project options by screening
selecting an optimal development concept for a project.
Genesis provides decision support at each of these stages using a proven approach and a
structured framework to ensure the correct decision is made. This eliminates poor decisions, which
could otherwise come from poor framing, from not adhering to a clear and structured process and
from not evaluating all of the options on an equitable basis.
These early phases of a project are where most value is created or lost. Poor decisions here cannot
be recovered in the project execution. The Genesis process, used on all early phase studies,
ensures:
all the potential contributors to the value of the project are considered and, where possible,
quantified not only capex but also opex, schedule, availability, recovery, flexibility, safety,
environmental and project risk and uncertainty to ensure an equitable basis for concept
selection;
there is an audit trail for the decision process, with a robust basis and clear reasons for the
elimination of alternatives;
the choices and concepts that provide the maximum project value are identified and the results
are assured;
threats to the success of the development and potential sources of reduction in the economic
value of the project are identified and assessed.

Concept Definition (Pre-FEED)

Concept Definition provides the link between Field Development
Planning and FEED. A single, well defined option is selected to
complete the Create phase.
Concept Definition, or Pre-FEED, adds a further level of detail to the short listed options identified in
the field development planning phase to achieve more precise definition, a better cost estimate and,
ultimately, selection of a single option for FEED.
Activities in Concept Definition are chosen to address the development's circumstances and can
include:
Process scheme optimisation
Reduction in optionality using targeted studies of particular aspects of design
Finalisation of field architecture
P&ID initial development
Layout development
Issue of enquiries for long lead or high cost items
Cost estimating and economic assessment
Project schedule enhancement
Preparation of survey scopes of work, tendering and management of the work
Engagement with other work groups and third parties to reduce uncertainties e.g. drilling,
reservoir engineering, tie-ins to other facilities, regulatory authorities, buyers of products.
Development of risk mitigation plans
Project Execution Plan and contracting strategy finalisation
Basis of design update
Commencement of the ESIA process
As a result, the development enters FEED with a single, well defined option. The development's
major design issues have been decided; risks and uncertainties are understood; the cost estimate,
budgets and schedules are clear and complete.

Front End Engineering and Design

(FEED)
Genesis optimises concept designs through Front End Engineering
Design (FEED) projects, enabling clients to make sound investment
decisions and execute projects with minimal technical, cost and schedule
risks.
Our global, multi-disciplinary teams work in a flexible manner to provide a high-quality bespoke
engineering solution to each client's unique development. We have supported this phase of project
lifecycle for some of the most complex, diverse and challenging field developments in the world. Our
success is underpinned by working closely with our clients to align their needs with our robust and
proven FEED execution processes.
We provide informed decision support, cost estimate refinement, detail project scheduling and
quantitative risk profiling - all of which align with our client's approvals / sanctioning needs. We
derive functional requirements for equipment and systems, and provide informed support in deriving
contracting strategies, collating bidders lists, issuing tender invitations and performing bid
assessments for equipment delivery and installation.
We have extensive experience in a broad range of projects worldwide, together with expertise in a
number of niche markets including:
Onshore gas/oil gathering, separation, treatment and export
Onshore industrial / accommodation / support facilities
Fixed platforms topsides and substructures
Floating facilities (spars, TLPs, semi-submersibles, FPSOs)
Field layout optimisation
Subsea production infrastructure
Subsea and onshore pipelines

Detailed Design
Every detailed design project requires a unique engineering solution to
ensure the project is executed effectively, minimalising technical, cost
and schedule risks

In detailed design we convert the FEED results, tailored to the client's execution strategy, to deliver
an engineering design which can be safely and efficiently constructed, installed and commissioned.
We work closely with equipment suppliers, fabricators and installation contractors in this phase, and
manage the technical and contractual interfaces.
A key aspect of our detailed design offering is our knowledge of construction and installation. This
means our designs reflect the needs of the fabrication yards and the installation contractor.
Our engineering, procurement and quality assurance teams work with our supply chain of
subcontractors and equipment suppliers, to ensure the whole project is delivered to our client in line
with their high expectations.
Genesis has a track record of consistently delivering accurate and timely solutions to detailed design
projects, from the most complex deepwater developments to fixed platforms, floaters, and onshore
plants.
We provide a comprehensive detail design service using well established procedures supported by a
fully validated suite of design tools and using state of the art software.
