Fish Oil Cuts Risk of Sudden Death

Fish Oil Cuts Risk of Sudden Death

JAMA April 10, 2002;287:1815-1821

The New England Journal Of Medicine April 11, 2002;346:1113-1118
People who eat several servings of fish each week may lower their risk of heart disease and death, two
national studies report.

In one study, men without heart disease were 81% less likely to experience sudden death when their
blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids were high regardless of their age, smoking habits, or the amount of
other types of fatty acids in their blood.

Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel, may lower the risk of
developing an irregular heart rhythm and reduce blood cholesterol and clotting -- all risk factors for heart
disease.

The findings point to a way for individuals to lower their risk of sudden death from heart attack.

The results suggest that increasing intake of omega-3 fatty acids by either supplements or by diet may
substantially reduce the risk of sudden death, even among those without a history of heart disease.

More than 50% of people who die suddenly of cardiac causes have no signs or symptoms of heart
disease.

In the first study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine researchers looked at the experience
of about 22,000 male doctors who enrolled in the Physicians' Health Study in 1982. They were all free of
heart disease at the time, and about 15,000 volunteered a blood sample.

Over the next 17 years, 94 of the men who had given blood samples and who had not subsequently been
diagnosed with heart disease died suddenly. The researchers chose about 180 surviving members of the
study and compared them with those victims. In particular, they compared the bloodstream
concentrations of substances called omega or n-3 fatty acids, found primarily in fish oils.

On average, the men who died suddenly had lower amounts of n-3 fatty acids than the ones who did not.
When the researchers divided all the men into four groups based on the concentration of n-3 fatty acids in
their blood, the men in the highest quarter had only a fifth the risk of sudden death as those in the lowest
quarter.

In the second study, which appears in JAMA, researchers studied the experience of 85,000 female
nurses. Like the physicians, they volunteered to be questioned and followed over many years as part of
the Nurses' Health Study, which began in 1976.

The researchers used dietary information gathered in five interviews between 1980 and 1994 to estimate
fish intake. They also calculated the approximate amount of n-3 fatty acids consumed, based on the type
of fish the women listed in their diet questionnaires.

The researchers found that the more frequently a woman ate fish, the less likely she was to suffer a heart
attack or to die of any cardiac cause. Specifically, those who ate fish once a week had a 30 percent lower
risk of heart attack or death as those who never ate fish. Eating fish five times a week was only slightly
more beneficial; those women had a 34 percent lower risk.

Although ocean-living, cold-water oily fish such as salmon, swordfish and tuna offer the largest, easily
accessible sources of n-3 fatty acids, there are others. Flax seed oil, canola oil and English walnuts all
contain significant amounts of the oils.

A European study published in 1999 showed that fish oil supplements reduced the risk of sudden death in
people who had previously survived a heart attack. The n-3 fatty acids appear to have a specific
antiarrhythmic effect, possibly by stabilizing the membranes of heart muscle cells.

The oils also have a blood-thinning effect, like aspirin. In some observational studies, fish consumption
has been associated with a lower risk of stroke. There have been anecdotal observations that fish oil
supplements may have antidepressant effects as well.

The findings support a growing body of research indicating that omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk
of heart disease and death.

DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT:

If you live in the Chicago area you will certainly want to mark your calendars for one of the leading world experts in
Omega-3 nutrition to speak to the public for only $10. Her book, The Omega Diet, is one of the best ones out there
on omega-3 fats for health. You can read more about the lecture by reviewing her lecture page.

If you have been reading the newsletter for awhile, you will know that omega-3 oils is something I have been
promoting for some time now. Last month I posted an excellent review on this topic that was published in the
Canadian Medical Journal.

Omega three fats are essential to your health. You can certainly get them from cod liver oil or fish oil.

Please remember that nearly all fish are contaminated with mercury and should ideally be avoided. You will want to
identify a clean source of fish oil.

If you already have significant sun exposure then you should not take cod liver oil as you will run the risk of
overdosing on vitamin D.

You should then take fish oil capsules. The standard fish oil capsule is 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA. You
should take approximately one capsule for every ten pounds of body weight, preferably in two divided doses.

So if you weigh 160 pounds you would take 8 capsules twice a day. If you have problems with belching them up,
you will want to consider taking them on an empty stomach.

Probably the best value for fish oil capsules is the one we sell in our office. The Kirkland brand from Costco. They
sell a 300 capsule bottle for about $7.50. Because Costco has such a high turnover, the oil is very fresh. You can tell,
by puncturing one of the capsules and seeing if there is any "fishy" aftertaste. This is usually a sign of rancid fat and
an indication of an inferior product.

Cod liver oil has the benefit of providing you with vitamin D and A. A reasonable dose for cod liver oil is one
teaspoon for every 30-40 pounds of body weight. If you use cod liver oil during your summer you will need to be
careful of vitamin D toxicity and I suggest you review the information on vitamin D testing.

When you take fish oil supplements or cod liver oil in the doses I recommend please be sure and take an one vitamin
E 400 unit supplement per day as this will help serve to protect the fat from oxidation. This is less of an issue with
the cod liver oil as the vitamin D itself is a very potent anti-oxidant.

You will also need extra amounts of the "fourth and unforgotten" oil soluble vitamin, vitamin K. If you are juicing
plenty of green vegetables and taking the cod liver oil or fish oil with the juice you should absorb the vitamin K in
the vegetable juice. However, if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, you will want to consider adding an extra
1000 mcg ( 1 mg ) of vitamin K per day.

Generally our diet contains far to much omega 6 fats. Experts looking at the dietary ratio of omega-6 to omega-3
fatty acids suggest that in early human history the ratio was about 1:1. Currently most Americans eat a dietary ratio
that falls between 20:1 and 50:1. The optimal ratio is most likely closer to the original ratio of 1:1. For most of us
this means greatly reducing the omega-6 fatty acids we consume and increasing the amount of omega-3 fatty acids.

Please recognize that we get ALL the omega-6 and omega-9 fat we need from food. We do NOT need to take any
supplements for these fats. Many of the omega fat supplements you see in health food stores will only serve to
worsen your health, not improve it as they contain omega 6 fats which will worsen your omega-6 to omega-3 ratio.

I strongly recommend avoiding sunflower, corn, soy, safflower, canola, or products that contain these oils. That is
no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats, no margarine, no vegetable oil, no shortening. These oils are chock
full of omega-6 fats and will only worsen your omega 6:omega 3 ratio.

Acceptable oils will be a high quality extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, and organic butter, or better yet
grass-fed organic butter.

Another way to improve your omega 6:3 ratio is to change the type of meat you are eating. You could consume
more game meat like venison, or other game animals that are raised exclusively on grass type foods. However, these
are hard to find and generally more expensive than beef.

Since nearly all cattle are grain fed before slaughter, if you eat most traditionally raised beef, it will typically worsen
you omega 6:omega 3 ratio.

Normally a good ratio for omega 6:3 in fish is 2 or 3 to 1. The lower the better. Grassfed beef from Grassfed
Organics is much higher in Omega 3 than fish, with a 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1. This information is from a study done at
Iowa State University in August 2001.

To get the necessary Omega-3 fatty acids, you should consider eating meat that is allowed to "free-range", or in the
case of cattle, to be grass-fed. Unfortunately, you cannot buy this grass-fed beef at your local grocery store.

You must also be careful as many stores will advertise grass-fed beef but it really isn't. They do this as ALL cattle
are grass fed, but the key is what they are fed the months prior to being processed.

Most all cattle are shipped to giant feed lots and fed corn to fatten them up. You will need to call the person who
actually grew the beef, NOT the store manager, to find out the truth.

The least expensive way to obtain authentic grass fed beef would be to find a farmer who is growing the beef who
you can trust and buy a half a side of beef from him. This way you save the shipping and also receive a reduced rate
on the meat.

An inexpensive, yet effective way to determine if the meat is really from a grass fed animal is to purchase the
ground beef. Slowly cook the beef till done and drain and collect all the fat. Grass fed beef is very high in omega-3
fats and will be relatively thin compared to traditionally prepared ground beef.

It will also be a liquid at room temperature as it has very few saturated fats which are mostly solid at room
temperature.

However, most of us live in large urban areas and do not have the time for this process. Just as it would be ideal to
have an organic garden and grow your own vegetables, most of us elect not to do that for time or space reasons.

I used to have an organic garden, but my schedule just would not allow me to have that luxury anymore. So, if you
are convinced, like I am, that grass-fed beef is better for you and you would like the convenience of being able to
order it over the Net, you can buy grass-fed beef online, shipped overnight to your door, at Grassfed Organics.

Sun semisquare Mars/Uranus midpoint - '15
Uranus oppose Mars/Saturn midpoint - '13

Other midpoints to look at are:

Mercury/Uranus----refers to the spinal cord and disturbances and of

Saturn/Uranus---indicates irritability and inhibition,as well as tension in the body.

It can refer to blockages in the heart.

The young girl had a lot of ear infections between the ages of one and three, and
was given many antibiotics. Her hearing was affected, and she ended up having
surgery on her ear drum when she was about two and half. She also had a
speech problem, but after some speech therapy, she is fine and reads well. She is
noted to having a short attention span, but becomes totally absorbed when
watching television. Those could be connected to Dyslexia too. A lot of Dyslexics
have a history of ear infections and speech problems that required speech
therapy. I had a severe infection when I was 3 months old that required me to be
taken to hospital. I had a history of auditory problems including turning things
around when I heard them and also needed people to slow down when talking to
me. I also had speech therapy. The girl has Moon square Uranus-Neptune
conjunction. She has Saturn oppose Mars in Virgo in 3rd. I have Saturn oppose a
planet in 3rd house like her. As for her reading well. That can be a bit vague.
Maybe she decodes(sounds out when looking at them--that's phonological
processing--phonics is for) words well, but maybe has problems remembering
what she reads. I definitely have problems remembering what I read. The Vetern
Affairs neurologist that examined me told me that it's because of my auditory
processing deficits. He also told me that my slow saccadic eye movements could
cause me to have problems reading too. The girl's short attention span could be
from auditory processing deficit. After all, she does have history of ear infections
which could adversely affected her auditory processing. Auditory Processing
Disorders are often misdiagnosed as AD/HD.

As you see, I am not convinced of her ADD examples. She is not distinguishing
Dyslexia and other related conditions from ADD. Her examples have other
conditions including speech problems, learning disabilities, Only 2 examples is not
enough to show me ADD indicators. She says that poor diet is contributing to the
ADD problem which didn't appear until the 1970's. That's not true. ADD was
known by other names like Minimal Brain Dysfunction. Ritalin was a drug that
was a medication used before 1970. My uncle was hyperactive and he was
recommended to take medication, and this was before I was born in 1971. He
was in special education for his speech problems and hyperactivity.
I believe Marcia Starck needs to go back to the drawing board and do more
astrological research. I also feel that she needs to read up about Dyslexia and
auditory processing disorders as well as ADD. Marcia Starck in her medical
astrology book said that Pallas figures into Dyslexia and learning disorders, but
she also said bipolar disorders too. Also she seemed to focus Dyslexia as a
visual disorder when most Dyslexics have phonological, auditory processing
problems. I wonder where she gets her Dyslexia info.
She focus on ADD as hyperactivity and impulsivity. Hyperactivity and impulsivity
aren't necessary for a diagnosis of ADD. Inattentiveness is also. Today, the
DSM-IV-TR has 3 types of ADHD. There is ADHD inattentive type,ADHD
hyperactive type, and ADHD combined type. ADHD inattentive type is
inattentiveness issues without hyperactivity. ADHD hyperactive type is
hyperactivity/impulsivity issues without inattentiveness. I was diagnosed as
having ADHD inattentive type at the age of 32 in 2004.

Many AD/HDers tend to be highly sensitive(sensory integration issues are

common) and very emotional too. AD/HD symptoms tend to overlap with bipolar.
I was diagnosed Bipolar myself before diagnosed as having AD/HD. There is a
significant comorbidity of those 2 conditions. Many of them self medicate with
drugs and alcohol as well as get in trouble with the law. I feel that I have come
from an AD/HD family on my mom's side, and there is heavy drug and alcohol use
in that family. A lot of potheads in my family. Also my father had
Dyslexic,Dyspraxic characteristics and he had drug problems himself. He might
have had AD/HD. The inattentive types tend to come across as
spacy, daydreaming types. This seems more Neptune to me. I have found some
people who were diagnosed as having ADD to have strong hard Neptune
aspects as well as Mercury-Neptune theme..even Neptune in 3rd which I have.
Marcia Starck's own ADD examples have strong hard Neptune aspects. They
both have Moon-Neptune aspects like me. I find that in learning disabled too.
Some believe that AD/HD is a learning disability too. Learning disabilities and
AD/HD tend to be comorbid. Some studies show that 40 percent of Dyslexics
have AD/HD. Dr. Levinson believes that 90 percent of Dyslexics have AD/HD and
90 percent of AD/HDers have Dyslexia. Therefore,he believes that Dyslexia and
AD/HD are 2 sides of the same coin and linked to cerebellar vestibular
dysfunction. He didn't believe that I have AD/HD. He didn't prescribe medication
for AD/HD.

Novelty seeking gene,DRD4 7R has been connected to the hunter trait that is
AD/HD. Thom Hartmann believes that the problems that AD/HDers have are
actually traits that hunters used. It was my reading his books that made me stop
believing that AD/HD is a disorder that needs to be medicated but just an
alternative way of being and thinking. He believes that educational reform is
strongly needed. He believes that the school teaching doesn't match the learning
style of Hunter types. He calls normal people Farmer types. He even made a
point that the educational/grading system we have is factory worker-based. He
noted that a lazy, uncaring auditory sequential style teacher came up with the
concept of grades which are based on the factory working system. This made it
easier to teach so many students and spend less time with them. Before his
invention, it was just pass and fail. Teachers had small classes and were very
close to their students and adjusted to their learning styles. Today, teachers don't
do that. They don't see that there is anything wrong with their teaching. They
view that there is something wrong with the student. Teaching is mainly auditory
sequential, and visual spatial learners have trouble learning from that style of
teaching. I am definitely one of them.

Thom Hartmann has authored in the area of attention-deficit hyperactivity

disorder (ADD or ADHD) and adult attention-deficit disorder (AADD) and he is the
creator (first proposed by him in 1978, first published nationally in 1992) of the
now well-known hunter vs. farmer theory - that ADD is an expected evolutionary
adaptation to hunting lifestyles. These individuals have the ability to rapidly shift
their focus and external attention and to hold multiple trains of thought. This
causes difficulties when they must live and work in cultures in which "farming" -
well-planned, predictable, organized and repetitive behaviours are typical.
Hartmann has established specialized schools for children with [AD/HD].
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thom_Hartmann

As you see, I wouldn't necessarily connect AD/HD to being a disorder caused by

diet,nutrition,health problems.

Here is his site..it has articles and message board. The scientists discovery of
DRD4 7R gene has strongly supported his Hunter Theory about
AD/HD www.thomhartmann.com/home-add.shtml

here is the scientific article

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Related To Advantageous Gene
The researchers found 56 variations, or alleles (al-LEELEs) of a gene called
DRD4, which produces the receptor for dopamine, a neurotransmitter. One allele,
known as 7R, was strongly associated with ADHD. By analyzing the variations in
DRD4, they also found that the 7R allele was created recently and may have
provided an evolutionary advantage at some time in human history. The study
could not determine, however, if that evolutionary selection is still
occurring. www.sciencedaily.com/release...4512.htm

If DRD4 7R gene is an advantageous gene, then why is ADHDers need to be

fixed by medication or cutting out certain foods? It doesn't make sense to me.

Dyslexic/Autistic, Ronald D. Davis has a unique way of viewing AD/HD which he

believes if connected to Dyslexia. He wrote the book, the GIFT OF DYSLEXIA
and is founder of an
international Dyslexia organization. He states that:

"Disorientation and distorted perceptions do more than create symptoms

of dyslexia. The dyslexic or A.D.D. child uses disorientation for
entertainment; he may be disoriented for hours on end creating the
imaginary world he plays in.

What we accept as reality is what we experience. The way we realize an

experience is that we perceive it. Reality, then, is what we perceive
it to be. When disorientation occurs, perception becomes distorted. A
person who is disoriented experiences a reality that is not being
experienced by othersa false, or alternate, reality.

Because of their frequent disorientation, many dyslexic or A.D.D.

individuals do not learn the basic lessons of life. Cause and effect
do not exist in the disorienting child's imaginary, alternate reality
world. Thus, the child never learns the concept of consequence.

Additionally, the child is also experiencing a distorted sense of

time. A minute can be a very long time or very short but it is never
the same. A person who experiences time uniformly can develop an
inherent sense of how long it takes a minute to go by. Most children
have an awareness of the passage of time by age five; by age seven,
they can sense the passage of five minutes. But the disorienting child
doesn't experience the passage of time uniformly, and so does not
develop an inherent sense of the passage of time at all, even as a
teenager or adult.

With an inherent sense of time, we will also develop an inherent sense

of sequence. That is, we understand the way things follow each other
one after another.

If we have time and sequence, we will also develop an inherent sense

of order as opposed to disorder. But without the sense of time, we can
never progress to understanding sequence or order."

Although ADD and impaired balance/coordination/rhythm were recognized by

many experts to be present in patients with Dyslexia or Learning Disabilities, Dr.
Levinson was the first to discover that dyslexia or LD and ADD all stem from one
and the same inner-ear (cerebellar-vestibular) dysfunction.

Clearly, if ADD symptoms occur in 90% of dyslexics characterized by only inner-

ear neurological signs diagnostic of an inner-ear dysfunction, and respond
favorably to medications and therapy which improve only inner-ear functioning
then both dyslexia and ADD are mere reflections of a common inner-ear
impairment. They're just two sides of the same "coin."

The following is THE EVERYTHING PARENT'S GUIDE TO CHILDREN WITH

DYSLEXIA
by Abigail Marshall:

The letters ADD are commonly used to refer to Attention Deficit

Disorder-Inattentive Type; whereas ADHD refers to Attention Deficit
with Hyperactivity. Both patterns of attention deficits are very
common among children with dyslexia. Also, it is very common among
children with dyslexia. Also, it is very common for children with
dyslexia to be misdiagnosed as having ADD because of symptoms that
are common to both conditions.

A child with dyslexia is twice as likely as other children to

have ADD; about 15 percent of students with reading problems are
also diagnosed with ADD. Conversely, a child with ADD is twice as
likely to have difficulties with reading about 36 percent of
children with ADD also have Dyslexia.

It is not clear why it is so common for children to have both ADD

and reading problems. Of course, ADD child will find it difficult to
learn if she cannot focus attention in classroom, but it is more
likely that there is a common set of learning traits to both
conditions. Some educators believe that, like dyslexia, ADD stems
from a predominantly right-brained learning style. Like dyslexia,
ADD is often seen in highly creative individuals and is common in
gifted children. In many ways, the symptoms of ADD may be the result
of an overactive mind and an unharnessed imagination.

1. Fails to pay close attention to details or makes careless

mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities
2. Has difficulty holding attention in tasks or play activities.
3. Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
4. Does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish
schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not because he is
rebelling or has not understood instructions)
5. Has difficulty organizing tasks and activities.
6. Avoids or dislikes tasks that require sustained mental effort
(such as schoolwork or homework).
7. Loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g. toys, school
assignments, pencils, books, or tools).
8. Is easily distracted by extraneous external stimuli.
9. Is forgetful in daily activities.

However, each of the above symptoms is also a common characteristic

of dyslexia. Your child's academic and language processing
difficulties will simply make it difficult for him to sustain
attention, follow instructions, or complete schoolwork. Thus you
should be careful before accepting a diagnosis of "inattentive" type
ADHD. In some cases, a mistaken diagnosis can lead to delays in
getting help or special tutoring to address reading problems.
Studies show that medication commonly prescribed for AD/HD do not
help children learn academic skills.

HYPERACTIVITY-IMPULSIVITY TYPE

The second type of ADHD, Hyperactivity-impulsivity type, is more

distinct from dyslexia. According to DSM-IV, it is diagnosed when
the child has six or more of the following symptoms.

1. Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat.

2. Does not stay in seat in classroom or in other situations in
which remaining seated is expected
3. Runs around or climbs excessively in situations in which it is
inappropriate (in adolescents, may be limited to subjective feelings
of restlessness).
4. Has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly.
5. Is often "on the go" or often acts if "driven by a motor"
6. Talks excessively
7. Blurts out answers before questions have been completed.
8. Has difficulty awaiting turn.
9. Interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g.,butts into conversations
or games).

Many of these behaviors may also be a result of the learning

problems associated with dyslexia. A child who is frustrated or
confused in classroom will have a hard time sitting still or obeying
rules. Again, it is important for you to consider the content
surrounding the observed behavior.

by Abigail
Marshall

I honestly feel that neurodivergent conditions are too hard to pin down and are
often misunderstood. A lot of us don't want to be fixed but like who we are but
need special help to help us live productive lives. Even that special help is hard
to pin down and varies.
Seeing the big picture would definitely help with understanding neurodiverse
conditions and prevent misdiagnoses. We can recognize the positive influences
of the outerplanet energies and not the negative influences of the outerplanet
energies.

His Sun conj Mercury is conjunct within 2 degrees. That's a Mercury combust. It
can indicate a high degree of nervous energy that can lead to mental burnout.
That conjunction is oppose Chiron, and that can indicate
expression,communications that are maverick,holistic oriented,and outside the

Definitely a sign of a "one of a kind" unique person. He could end up in the

Uranus conj Neptune in 6th indicates that there can be problems with daily
routine and organization due to the unconventional, erratic nature(Uranus) as well
as nebulous, confusing(Nature). This could point to somebody that has a strong
dislike for anything routine. Uranus conj Neptune in 6th can also indicate unusual
health problems that are hard to pin down and misdiagnosed. There could also
be unusual disturbances in digestive system and oversensitive digestive system.
Medications could have adverse affects due to the hypersensitvity of the
digestive system and may require a smaller than normal dosage. Uranus conj
Neptune in 6th might have job instability and confusion. There could be a chance
that he could end up self employed so he can utilize his innovativeness and

Dyslexics,Dyspraxics, and AD/HDers share disorganization in common. I have

to medications and misdiagnoses. I definitely have a history of employment
issues too.

Do you think that he really has AD/HD or do you think that he's just
gifted, creative and just doesn't fit in the norm? Do you think he might have a
learning disability like Dyslexial. A lot of AD/HD and Learning Disabled are gifted
too. They can have very uneven grades and test scores. They can be mistaken

Their disabilities mask their giftedness. A real paradox. I am personally that way

I don't think that I need medication to help me focus and concentrate.I might be
ADD when I am doing deskwork, but I am definitely not ADD when it comes to
massage therapy. I feel that it is because I hate deskwork. I hate routine work. A
lot of it has to do with reading and organizing things which many Dyslexics and
Dyspraxics have problems
with. While I can use my sensitivity,3-D visualization, and thinking outside the box
ability for massage therapy and astrology

I just have to do what makes me happy. I should use my strengths in my work.

My ultrasensitivity was a liability in the navy, but it's an asset in the holistic health
field and metaphysical field.

A lot of people that are bored with certain subjects have problems focusing
enough to learn about the subject, and so that
doesn't mean that they are ADD. I don't want to learn Freudian Psychology, and
so I would have problems focusing and concentrating. I
love Jungian Psychology, and I can really focus and concentrate. I will hyperfocus
and I will read things over and over again until I get into my long term memory.
After all, many Dyslexics and Dyspraxics have
problems with short term memory, but Dyslexics short term memory is mainly
about poor short term memory for words and sequences.

A lot of people are bored in mainstream schools because many teachers can
seem boring, and they might thrive in alternative schools. That's pretty much me.
That's why I went to massage therapy school, and I just
did the certificate program. I didn't do the associates degree program because I
didn't want to do the general ed stuff that included Algebra and College English. I
finished wih B average and perfect attendance. Some people might be bored in
mainstream schools
because they are visual spatial learners, but teachers are teaching in auditory
sequential style. That's pretty much me too.

Studies show that many gifted people are misdiagnosed as AD/HD because they
are often bored because things aren't stimulating enough for them. Creative
people can get misdiagnosed as AD/HD because they might
find school dull because teachers don't teach anything that appeals to their
imagination.

material.

6. Supplementation with important minerals and nutritional factors in is very

important. In research with ADD children, deficiencies in the essential fatty acids
and in zinc were common.

7. Acupuncture and magnet therapy are helpful. Certain acupuncture points work
to calm the spirit, as do magnets applied to the inside of the elbow and the inside
of the wrists.

8. Finding the homeopathic constitutional remedy is very important.

9. Color therapy has worked well to relax the nervous system. Sound therapy has
worked very well to balance the spirit and supply tones that may be missing from
the individual's range.

SUPPLEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ADD

GLA is one of the EFA's(essential fatty acids)which is found in evening primrose
oil, borage oil,and black currant seed oil.

EPA and DHA are the Omega 3 long chain fatty acids that are found in fish oils.
They are particularly helpful for those with allergies and chemical sensitivities.

Zinc helps the body in cases of chemical detoxication. It is very important for the
immune system and regulates the function of the white blood cells.

Magnesium a key mineral for the nervous system and helps in the assimilation of
calcium as well. It can be supplemented through liquid chlorophyll, as well as
through capsules.

Manganese helps the nervous system and also helps in blood sugar disorders.

B Complex vitamins are important for stress and for the normal functioning of the
nervous system. Deficiencies can contribute to depresson, insomnia, and
irritability.

Bioflavonoids with Quercitin help the immune system and are important in
protecting from allergic substances and chemical sensitivities. They also are
necessary in circulation and in manufacturing vitamin C in the body.

Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant which helps to prevent the breakdown of

nutrients.

Glutathione and L-cysteine----Glutathione is an antioxidant; it helps protect

against environmental toxins and heavy mentals by detoxifying these chemicals,
It is obtained from L-cysteine or N-acetyl cysteine.

Probiotics are very important in producing the B vitamins in the body; they also
help with food assimilation. They may be taken in powdered of capsule form.

HERBAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Nervine herbs including hops,camomile,scullcap,catnip,lavender,and spearmint
are very helpful as teas.

Alfalfa tea is good for making the body more alkaline and balancing the blood
sugar.

Parsley tea made from fresh organic parsley simmed in water alkalinizes the
body and clears the kidneys.

I agree! I had a lot of willpower to stick with the traditional subjects in school...I

Apr
2009 down the road to success.

Midheaven in Gemini and Mercury in Scorpio:

You could have two jobs or careers. For example, you could have one career and
then
another one writing or talking about the first. You enjoy a lot of intellectual
stimulation, and you have a need to talk about your work. You are successful to
the degree that you are using your mind, your skills, and your wits. You will be
happy in your work if you are flexible, alert, swift, and clever. You will not be
happy in your job if you gossip, exaggerate or tell lies on the job.

You could work in fields such as agency work, the airlines, or business and
office
supplies. You are also suited for vocations involving travel, sales, data
processing,
information systems, the media, writing and journalism, entertainment,
transportation, or
anything literary.

Because you like to take charge and be powerful, you have a strong sense of
deep
commitment and involvement in your work. However, you run the risk of abusing
your
power if you are not careful.

Because the planet Mercury is said to be the "ruler" of your career, a good
reading of
chapter 4 on Mercury is essential to making your professional life run smoother.
Ruler of 10 house in 3rd:

Local connections, neighbors, sisters & brothers, or short trips will all play a key
role in your professional career. In order to earn more income, you should
develop greater
communications skills. You have a great need to express yourself. So learn how
to voice
your opinions and to get paid for doing it.

Ruler of 2nd house in 3rd:

Increasing your communications skills will increase your income. You CAN earn
money
through speaking, writing, traveling and communicating.

Creative mental and verbal ability will pay off handsomely for you. Short trips
and
mobile communications will also play a key role in your financial success. You
may do some business with siblings or neighbors.

Ruler of 6th house in 2nd:

To earn the necessities of life, you could do something related to the animal
kingdom. Or you could find employment helping others to get work. Your own
ideal working conditions could include doing something that very easily flows with
your sense of innate values. When it comes to training and task orientation, you
could benefit from learning skills in health, nutrition and related fields.

Saturn Conjunct MC:

One way or another, you're going to deal with the power of hard work.

You can also advance to the top through displaying professionalism and
expertise and
being competent, diligent and disciplined. You value tangible results and readily
accept
responsibility.

Suitable work may include any position where you are the boss or are in charge.
You
are also suited to be a professional, authority, or expert. Until you figure it out and
get it together, you may well be overworked and underpaid.

Jupiter Opposition MC:

It probably isn't easy, yet somehow it may be necessary for you to deal with the
power of your social skills.

You can also advance to the top by reaching beyond limits and expanding your
current horizons. Go places and learn things. Place importance upon a belief
system that fits your unique needs. The good news is that your stars are
encouraging you to seek fame and fortune. Better yet, you can make a name for
yourself. Best of all, if you put all this together, you will become some kind of
optimistic wheeler-dealer.

A suitable career for you may include acting, politics, entertainment, advertising,
broadcasting, telecommunications, publishing, stock options, financial
investment, the law or religion.

Uranus Trine MC:

It could be easy, and yet you may not be challenged enough to deal with the
power of
computers, science and technology.

In your life the unpredictability factor is strong. Not even the world's greatest
psychic astrologer would attempt to predict all of the wonderful surprises that
await you. You can become free enough to do whatever you choose. You can
also advance to the top by using your mental mastery and technical know-how.
You need to feed your need for excitement and stimulation and do the off-beat,
unorthodox things you want.

A suitable career may include TV, computers, astrology, science, or math.

MC Trine True Node:

It could be easy, and yet you may not be challenged enough to deal with the
power of
belonging to a mastermind group.

You can also advance to the top through your abilities to meet people and
establish
rapport. Suitable careers may include dating services and employment agencies.

Sun Biquintile MC:

Your special gift might be wasted. It might not be appreciated. You might not
even be free enough to do it. The choice is yours on how to handle the direct
application of power.

You can also advance to the top through self-involvement and self-promotion.
Put
another way, you can become some kind of superstar. You cater to the needs of
an
audience, have the need to be special and have fun, and were born with
spontaneous
management and leadership ability.

Suitable work may include anything where you are in the limelight. You could
work with
children. Your job could involve other people's fun. For example you could work
in an amusement park, theater, or sunny resort area.

MC Sextile Chiron:

Although it might be easy for you, you may not be challenged enough to deal with
the
power of your special skills to help you to achieve your destiny.

You can also advance to the top through being diligent, going out on a quest and
sending others on quests, taking a maverick approach to some important work,
or acting in an advisory capacity. You need to be useful on own terms.

Suitable work may include body work, chiropractic care, massage, herbs,
astrology, or any of the ancient traditions which are making a come back under
the banner of "New Age".

ered: told my mom it was a form of Dyslexia. It those auditory processing issues that
Apr
2009 get people to think I am stupid and slow. Even police thought I was
disoriented(as mentally ill) because I was slow in responding to them because I
had delays in understanding what they told me. I had asked the police for help
because I got lost finding my way back to my aunt's house. I was visiting out of
town. The auditory processing issues are common in Dyslexics and Dyspraxics.
They also label it as Central Auditory Processing Disorder or Auditory Processing
Disorder. They can oversensitive hearing and have problems listening when
there is background noise. Speech and reading problems and language
problems can be the result. Auditory Processing Disorder is recognized as one of
the main causes of Dyslexia. It's not neccessarily autistic thing. I also think that
Auditory Processing Disorder could be a manifestation of Dyslexia which can be
different brain wiring. Also auditory processing deficits tend to be mistaken for
attention deficits. We tend to be accused of not paying attention when we really
are. Also our minds can end up wandering off if there is a lot of noise or there is a
lot of talking. Imagine a person with auditory processing deficits having to pay
attention to a teacher lecturing in class. They could have problems understanding
what the teacher but can be accused of not paying attention. They can also react
to sounds and so they can move around...that could be seen as hyperactivity.

Many Dyslexics and people with auditory processing disorder have a history of
ear infections in childhood. I am one of them. I had severe ear infection when I
was 3 months old,and I had to be hospitalized.

My mother told me that my father had both auditory processing problems and
speech problems too. A matter of fact, she
told me that she was thinking of him when I got checked out because of my
speech problems when I was 4 yrs old. After I explained to my mother about
cluttering, she told me that my father did that. He was a clutterer just like me and
not just a stutterer. My mother also has auditory processing issues too. She told
me that she has a lot of Dyslexic symptoms that I read from Dr. Levinson's site.
http://www.levinsonmedical.com/information/syndrome.html

Here is something that Dr. Levinson wrote:

A SOLUTION TO THE RIDDLE DYSLEXIA The Discovery of Cerebellar-

Vestibular Syndromes and Therapies by Dr. Levinson
page 47

Although primary receptive aphasic speech disturbances were distinctly absent in

this dyslexic sample, an occasional dyslexic reported experiencing an unusually
long delay between hearing and comprehending a language sequence. As a
result, they often found themselves either requesting speakers to repeat
themselves as if they had not heard what was said, or forgetting what was said
and repeating it later on as if it was their own thought. This interesting difficulty
was expressed by a patient as follows: "I find myself saying, 'What?' and by the
time I've asked the question I know what was said....An d at other times I'll say
something only to find out I've just said repeated something told to me." This
temporal receptive speech impairment appeared to mirror the temporal
expressive speech delays noted in slurring, stammering, and stuttering, and
seemed also consistent with the temporal-spatial sequencing disturbances
generally characterizing the speech dysfunctions in dyslexia.
Auditory imperception or scrambling for spefici and sequential phonetic sounds
was not infrequently observed. This disturbance appeared to parallel the visual
scrambling and blurring phenomena previously described, and often provoked
both speech and spelling errors.

SMART BUT FEELING DUMB New Research on Dyslexia by Dr. Levinson

page 233 - 234

The most common and subtle disturbances found among dyslexics, often leading
many to become shy and avoid unnecessary speaking, are input and out speech
lags. In the presence of a drifting sound input, many dyslexics will hear the sound
and not know its meaning until several seconds or even several minutes later. If
the sound sequence coming into the brain drifts, it will take the thinking brain
several seconds or several minutes to compensate for the processing
disturbance, and the patient will frequently ask, "What?" This reflex allows the
patient time to compensate for the drifting input and eventually know what was
said. No infrequently, dyslexics will speak loudly, perhaps to compensate
unknowingly for auditory processing difficulties.

I can identify with all those things that Dr. Levinson said except for speaking
loudly. Of course,I was diagnosed as form of Dyslexia after getting my speech
and hearing tested at 4 yrs old. I was trained to hear things differently, had
intensive speech therapy and phonics training. Dr Levinson verified that I have
auditory processing issues by testing me with 3D auditory scanner and during
neurological testing which he noted slow auditory input.

Dr. Levinson gave me audiological testing with 3D Auditory Scanner, and my test

results were abnormal

AUDIOLOGICAL TESTING
To measure auditory blurring,Dr. Levinson devised an instrument capable of
speeding up a series of clear sounds until they could no
longer be distinguished, with and without an interfering background, thus
establishing the auditory blurring speed.

This is the page of my test that showed 3D auditory scanner was

abnormal http://people.tribe.net/2e0a4c30-b134-49f8-ba74-

In 2006,I had a neurological testing at Veteran Affairs Hospital. The neurologist

confirmed that I have auditory processing deficits. 2 weeks ago,I have
neuropsychological tesing. My auditory processing deficits were confirmed.

The thing about Dyslexics is that we have right hemisphere strengths. We think
mainly in pictures with strong 3-Dimensional visualization ability, vivid
imagination, intuition as well as creative, global thinking.
My mother told me that she is like that herself. Seems run in families.

That will help you find out if the person with an auditory Processing Disorder is
Dyslexic or not.

The neuropsychologist even told me that I have very strong visual spatial skills
and very good problem solving skills. I impressed her on the block design
subtest.

Block design is a subtest on many intelligence tests that tests visospatial and
motor skills. The testee is required to take blocks that have all white sides, all red
sides, and red and white sides and arrange them according to a pattern. They
are timed on this task and compared to a normative sample.

Block Design - Abstract visual-perceptual ability; spatial and nonverbal problem-

solving
A pure test of perceptual intelligence, Block Design is the only Perceptual subtest
that factors heavily with overall intelligence. Block Design will give you a good
clue to innate intellectual potential. However, Block Design is a visual-motor task
and poor performance may be developmental or related to a motor deficiency.

This what Susan Barton says about Dyslexia.

It cant be dyslexia. I had my child tested outside of the school system. They said
it was: (pick one)
Auditory Discrimination Problem
Auditory Processing Disorder
Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD)
Orthographic Deficit
Difficulty remembering spelling patterns
Dysgraphia
Dysnomia
Dysphonetic Deficit
Phonemic Awareness Deficit
Reading Disability (RD)
Reading Fluency Problem
Short-term or Long-term Memory Deficit
Specific Language Disability (SLD)
Visual Processing Disorder
Visual-Motor Integration Disorder
Visual Memory Deficit
Visual Tracking Problem
Visual Convergence Problem
Vocabulary on Demand Problem
Word Retrieval Deficit
Written Language Disorder

FACT:
What dyslexia is called depends upon the type of specialist who did the testing,
and their knowledge of dyslexia.

Dyslexia affects many different areas, but some testers only check one area.
They find one weakness and come to the wrong conclusion. They dont realize
that weakness may be part of a bigger problem: dyslexia.

Its like the fable of the blind men who approach an elephant from various
directions. The one who discovers the trunk describes the animal very differently
than the one who finds the tail, than the one who finds the leg, the tusk, etc.

None of them see that what they found is just one part of a bigger thing, an
elephant.

You have to see the big picture about Dyslexia. You can't just see one part and
just label it without considering the whole. After all Dyslexic mind is a mind that
involves seeing the big picture. I have a history of 17 of those problems. As you
see, she listed the auditory processing stuff. Auditory processing issues can be
part of Dyslexia. http://www.bartonreading.com/dys.html#myth

/ge Fantastic stuff! Thank you!
min
i I think my son has the same thing as you. I spoke to his teacher yesterday and
cus she told me that, on a one to one basis, he is superb, but with the background
p noise from his classmates, he struggles. He clutters his speech also. It's not that
Newfl
ake he can't speak properly- infact he shows a very wide vocabulary- he just trips
over his words a lot. You can always understand what he is saying. As for
Posts: reading and writing, so far he is doing well.
From: I was not convinced about it being outright autism- what you've described seems
Regist
to fit the bill perfectly and weirdly enough, I can even attribute some of those
ered: traits to myself!!!
It's the listening thing mostly. I know my son is by no means slow, nor do I regard
myself as slow, but for some reason there is often a delay in reacting to
instructions from somebody else. It's like my mind is too sluggish to process the
information quickly enough, and perhaps this is what's happening with my son.
That said, my mind is constantly on the go- so much so that I often have trouble
getting to sleep, because it's still active!!!
You can call my son's name 3 or 4 times, before he reponds, and whilst others
think this is disobdience, I have always disagreed. Now it seems as though I
might be in the right. My friends and family have recently been remarking, that I
do exactly the same thing!!!
I do have a massive family history of dyslexia, etc, and the more I think about it,
the more things fall in to place- not just regarding my son and I, but also other
relations!!! I will put forwrd your information to the doctor when I go and see him,
and see if he can see what I see!!!

It's interesting that you had an ear infection. My son has never had one- nor me,
but two of my (severly) dyslexic 1st cousins, a brother and sister, had ear
infections in toddlerhood. They were also hospitalised. Their younger brother is
very autistic indeed.
It's also strange that you mentioned about seeing the world through pictures and
a sort of imagery. The elder cousin I just told you about, has described that, and I
have long suspected that my son sees things in this way as well. Just little things
here and there that tell me he veiws life differently than most.
I do think he's highly intelligent though, and not just because I'm his mum. It
frustrates me when others think the opposite- I just wish they could see what I
see!

I'm so sorry for boring you with my family history! It's just alot of the things you
described seem to fit in so well with my nearest and dearest! I want to say thank
you again for your wonderful research and taking the time to write back. Nothings
100% yet, so I will keep you updated with what the professionals think!!!
You seem like a very acutely intelligent scorp! And for someone with a form of
dyslexia, you write beautifully!

Edit: I forgot to add that my son and I are ambidextrous- another symptom that
can be attributed apparently! How strange this is getting!

THESE INTEPRETATIONS ARE FROM COSMO NATAL REPORT BY KEPLER:

MERCURY IN SCORPIO IN 3RD

Mercury in Scorpio
- You have good mental concentration and the ability to become completely
immersed in your work. You seem to know things at an instinctive, nonverbal
level and prefer learning through direct experience or apprenticeship rather than
vicariously via books or lectures. You have mechanical ability and work well with
your hands. You could become adept at sculpture, pottery, carpentry, stained
glass, or anything that involves doing and making things manually. Biology (and
related fields such as medicine) interests you as well. You also have an
instinctive rapport with animals, and may feel you relate better to them than to
people! You tend to become narrowly focused upon your own specialized
interests and may not have much to say or communicate outside that field.

Mercury in 3rd
-Inquisitive and communicative, your mind seems to be "on" all of the time and
you are forever gathering information and sharing ideas. Your attention span may
be rather brief; you have many and diverse interests, and are easily distracted.
You learn quickly, are eager to pass on what you are learning and thinking about,
and may talk excessively.

VENUS IN SCORPIO IN 3RD

Venus in Scorpio

In love, you desire a deep, intense, passionate union with your beloved and form
very strong emotional bonds and attachments. You "marry" the person you love
at a very deep emotional level, and are often extremely possessive and jealous
of any threat to that union. You can be very demanding with your love partner.
You tend to be somewhat suspicious of even platonic, friendly relationships your
partner has. If you are ever betrayed, you are capable of hating with as much
force and intensity as you once loved. You are attracted to people who have an
aura of mystery about them.

Venus in 3rd
- Beautiful, elegant, and harmonious surroundings are very important to you, and
you have an innate sense of style, design, and form. Socially, also, good form
and politeness are important to you and you instinctively avoid crudeness and
dissonance.

You enjoy talking about love, relationships, art and the beautiful side of life. You
appreciate artistic people.

JUPITER IN SAGITTARIUS IN 3RD

Jupiter in Sagittarius
- Your strength lies in your ability to see the whole, rather than only the parts
which compose it. You have a deep need to explore the world and to develop
your own philosophy of life and sense of personal meaning. You vacillate
between being open-minded and tolerant of differing views, and being dogmatic
or overly zealous about your own viewpoint.

Jupiter in 3rd
-You have a great love of learning and an eager, curious, active mind which
impels you to travel and see as much of the world as possible. You read widely,
and may excel academically. You love being in a teacher-student relationship
and may stay in school for many years, prolonging your studies for as long as
possible! You also communicate well and would be an effective, inspiring
teacher.

Public relations or any field involving communications and sharing information

also suits you very well.

NEPTUNE IN SAGITTARIUS IN 3RD

You are part of a 14 year group of people that are extremely idealistic and
farsighted in their dreams. Your age group is very liberal and expansive in
outlook, and consequently churches become much more flexible and more
eclectic in their approach during your life time. Religions that do not adapt to the
broad-minded attitude of your age group simply are unable to attract very much
interest and involvement from you.

A great deal of metaphysical musing and speculation is evident in your age

group, and there is a very strong interest in all manner of psychic phenomena,
UFO's, prophecy, etc. This interest will open many new doors and insights, but
will also often lead to a great deal of fantasizing and speculation that is taken
more seriously than it should be.

Neptune in 3rd
-Daydreaming, lack of concentration, and inattention to your surroundings can be
problems for you. Your mind tends to wander unless you are using it in an
imaginative, creative way. Dry facts and cold logic hold no appeal for you, and
unless a subject has a colorful or personally inspiring element, you won't stick
with it for long. You have a sensitive, intuitive bent.

MERCURY ASPECTS

Mercury conjunct Venus and Mercury parallel Venus (Mercury-Venus occultation)

- You appreciate aesthetics and have a fine sense of form, design, and beauty.
You could develop considerable technical skill as an artist, designer, craftsman,
or creative writer. You could also sell objects of beauty - artistic products,
cosmetics, jewelry, etc.

You have the ability to please and harmonize well with others and tend to
ameliorate relationships between people. Your sense of humor, tact, and
personal charm are of great benefit to you in any work with people on a one-to-
one level.

Mercury contraparallel Saturn

-You have an aptitude for solving difficult mental problems due to your careful,
methodical approach, attention to detail, and tenacity in following a matter
through to its conclusion. You have good powers of concentration and enjoy
studying and thinking in solitude. You can get wrapped up entirely in your own
thoughts and completely engrossed in some small detail. You are slow and
cautious, but extremely thorough in your work. Conservative and something of a
skeptic, you may be narrow-minded or closed to any idea which has no concrete
proof or scientific verification. You prefer dealing with facts rather than abstract
speculation. You may also be distrustful or fearful of anything you cannot
understand with your rational mind. You are well-suited to work in research or
any field that requires careful study and thought.

Mercury parallel Neptune

-Your mind does not function in a linear, logical manner and you are often unable
to express your thoughts in simple, everyday language. Symbols, images, art, or
music better express your ideas. Flights of imagination and fantasy carry you into
strange and beautiful worlds, and you could develop the ability to transcribe
some of your perceptions to share with others, for example, by writing fantasy,
fiction, lyrics, or poetry. You are sensitive to nuances and possess intuitive or
psychic gifts, but you may become confused between imagination and true
perception. You have a strong mystical and idealistic bent, and have difficulty
concentrating your attention on practical or mundane activities. You are strongly
attracted to metaphysical and spiritual topics.
