Camp MahKee-Nac started in the summer of 1929 with 16 campers and five counselors. The summer that they moved here in 1935, they had 73 campers. During the great depression many camps closed down, including the girls camp situated here prior to 1935.

Each one of the 50 camping seasons has always held
special meaning for Frances me. For it is a real
privilege to have the opportunity to construct a caring
camp community, and to provide the setting, the program,
and especially the staff people so that our campers would
show sound growth during the summer.
And we want to acknowledge that the success of Mah-
Kee-Nac is really due to the ongoing contributions, year
by year, of hundreds of staff people who have served with us.
Symbolic of the staff through the years are Jim O'Neill,
Bill Chandler, George Gross,Jim Zeiler and "Harold" Sturm,
each of whom has been a part of us for fourteen years or more.
And then there are Bob and Diane, who mean so very much
tous. Bob joined us 22 years ago, and Diane 2 years later,
and now for five years they have shared Director respon-
sibilities with us.
We will always remain deeply indebted for the support
of our Staff, and the confidence and trust of our Camp
Parents throtghout these years.
