1.ORIGIN OF THE FOOD SERVICE INDUSTY

Food service industry defines those businesses, institutions, and companies responsible for any
meal prepared outside the home. This industry includes restaurants, school and hospital
cafeterias, catering operations, and many other formats.

2. FAST FOOD

Fast food is a type of mass-produced food that is prepared and served very quickly. The food is
typically less nutritionally valuable compared to other foods and dishes.

3. INSTITUTIONAL CATERING

Institutional Catering is a specialized area whose peculiarity lies in the special attention being
paid to the nutritional composition of the prepared meals.

4. AIRLINE CATERING- Catering to airline passengers on board the air craft,


as well as at restaurants situated at airport terminals is
termed as airline catering.

AIRPORT CATERING An airline meal, airline food, plane food or in-


flight meal is a meal served to passengers on board a commercial airliner.
These meals are prepared by specialist airline catering services.

FLIGHT CATERING -Plane food or in-flight meal is a meal served to


passengers on board a commercial airliner. These meals are prepared by
specialist airline catering services.

5.SHIP CATERING- Ship catering is catering to cargo crew and passenger


ship passengers. Ships have kitchens and restaurants on board.

6. RAIL WAY CATERING- Catering to railway passengers both during the


journey as well as during halts at different railway stations.

7. RESTAURANT- A restaurant is an establishment that serves the customers


with prepared food and beverages to order, to be consumed on the
premises.
