Biography:

Ignacio Orns began his musical studies with Venezuelan composer Nelly Mele-
Lara and guitarist Enrique Quevedo. Then, he enrolled at the Conservatorio Nacional
Juan Jos Landaeta, where he studied under Maestro Antonio Lauro and completed
the Solfege and Harmony Curriculae. At the same time, he took private lessons from
Maestro Leopoldo Igarza.
In 1983, he received a scholarship from the Venezuelan Government in order to
continue his studies with Neil Anderson at the Boston Conservatory, obtaining the
degree of Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, Cum Laude in May, 1987.
In June 1989, he received the degree of Master of Arts in Music from the
University of California at San Diego under Pepe and Celn Romero.
In Venezuela, Ignacio Orns has given numerous concerts and solo recitals,
including a National Tour in 1988 and guest appearances with the major orchestras of the
country. He has also performed as member of various chamber and vocal ensembles, and
has recorded for the National Radio and Television in Caracas.
He has concertized in smaller scale in the U.S.A. and in Germany, where he
received the degree of Konzertexamen, under the guidance of Professor Dieter
Kreidler, at the Hochschule fr Musik Kln in February, 1997.
Since 1990, he has held the post of the late Antonio Lauro at the Conservatorio
Nacional Juan Jos Landaeta, while teaching at other musical institutes in Caracas. In
1990, he was invited as a Jury member to the 4th. National Competition for Young
Guitarists Antonio Lauro.
In October 2001 he performed several concerts in Moscow while representing
Venezuela at the II Festival of Ibero-American Culture, where he also taught a master-
class at the Gniesin Superior College of Music. Currently, he is preparing for concert
tours through the Caribean and Eastern Europe.
Throughout his career, Ignacio Orns has received many rewarding comments
regarding his playing, some of which will follow:

Orns is a first rate professional artist on the classical guitar. He has mastered the

An excellent technique and his adherance to the part make Ignacio Orns one of the

His recital at the Alexander Scriabin Memorial Museum and his master-class at the
Gniesin Superior College of Music aroused a lot of cultural interest and showed his

ITINERARY

Ignacio Orns: carried out from August 10 to September 3 an intense tour with his
guitar and varied repertory of contemporary classics, performing at locations that have not always
enjoyed good art. The Athenaeums of Valera, Ejido, Lagunillas, San Cristobal, Los Teques, Calabozo
and Caracas were included at this special occasion, where playing the guitar with a pedagogical sense is
an essential part of the purpose.

IGNACIO ORNS GARCA

In 1977, he enrolled at the Conservatorio Nacional Juan Jos Landaeta, where he


studied under the guidance of the outstanding Maestro Antonio Lauro and completed his
studies in Solfege and Harmony. To complement his studies he took lessons from
Maestro Leopoldo Igarza.

In 1983, he received a scholarship from the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation in


order to continue his studies with Neil Anderson at the Boston Conservatory, obtaining
the degree of Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, Cum Laude in May, 1987.

In June 1989, he received the degree of Master of Arts in Music from the University
of California at San Diego under Pepe and Celn Romero.

In Venezuela, Ignacio Orns has given numerous concerts and solo recitals, including a
National Tour in 1988 and guest appearances with the major orchestras of the country.
He has also performed as member of various chamber and vocal ensembles, and has
recorded for the National Radio and Television in Caracas.

He has performed in the states of Ohio, Massachusetts and California,U.S.A.

In Caracas, he works at the Jos Reyna, Prudencio Esa, Lin Gallardo and
Conservatorio Nacional 'Juan Jos Landaeta'.

Throughout his career, Ignacio Orns has received critical comments like the following:
Orns is a first rate professional artist on the classical guitar. He has mastered the
technique and already has an extensive repertoire. Peter Farrell, Concert Cellist and

New Concert Series begins at the Forum with Music of Venezuela

Silvia Cabrelles, pianist, and Ignacio Orns, guitarist, will give a concert with Venezuelan
music on Saturday, February 24 at 8:00 p.m. at the Forum Arrenberg. There will be
performed compositions for piano, guitar and voice by Antonio Estvez, Antonio Lauro,
Ernesto Grenet, Carlos Roig, Joaqun Rodrigo and Manuel Ponce.

Ignacio Ornes began his musical studies in his country with famous guitarists. Then, he
enrolled at the Conservatorio Nacional 'Juan Jos Landaeta'.

In 1983, he received a scholarship from the Venezuelan Government in order to continue


his studies at the Boston Conservatory as guitarist, composer and conductor, obtaining
the degree of Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, Cum Laude in 1987.

Two years later, he received the degree of Master of Arts in Music from the
University of California. In 1997, at the Hochschule fr Musik Kln received the
diplom of Konzertexamen, the highest degree conferred to concert players for their
artistry.

This musician has carried out successful concert tours in Venezuela, the U.S.A. and
Germany.

He perfected his playing under the guidance of outstanding maestro Narciso Yepes.

Since 1990, he has taught classical guitar at the Conservatorio Nacional 'Juan Jos
Landaeta'.
