MESSAGE
Dear Jaycees,
I am very proud to be the President
of JCI Coimbatore Marutham, even
more proud to pen a message for our
renowned MARUTHAM ALAI and
most proud that I am an active junior
citizen of the world.
My tryst with JCI Coimbatore
Marutham is three years now and I
am very happy to be a part of the
LOM for a few reasons.
I have always loved farms and crop
lands and I am therefore exuberant to
be a part of JCI Coimbatore
MARUTHAM. The name
MARUTHAM stands for crop lands. I
have a family of friends, guides and
philosophers in our LOM and I am
very happy to be one among them
and always obtain their wishes and
guidance. I should also thank our ZP,
ZVP and District Coordinator for
taking me as their younger brother
and travelling with me.
As a President, I believe I have more
responsibility to the LOM. I will sure
take our LOM one step ahead in the
Zone and National Level. I am
sharpening my axes and before my
term ends, I am sure the tree will be
cut. Of course, with all your support.
I take this opportunity to
congratulate and thank JCI Erode
Cauvery for giving us the memorable
MIDCON VASANTHA VIZHA. The
MIDCON was organised in a grand
manner. VASANTHA VIZHA was
organised in a traditional way and
that was even more special for
MARUTHAM people. The event
exceeded everyones expectations
and the joy brought about by the
event speaks of the bonding we share
in our zone.

THINK LEPROSY NOW
Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe,
disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms, legs,
and skin areas around the body. The disease has been
around since ancient times, often surrounded by terrifying
tales of leprosy patients being shunned as outcasts. There are
more than lakhs of people affected by leprosy in all
continents. Today, leprosy is completely curable, but
prejudice and discrimination against people affected by
leprosy remain deeply rooted.
The Nippon Foundation has been actively working for more
than 40 years to eliminate leprosy and also to eliminate
prejudice and discrimination against people affected by
leprosy. This year's Nippon Foundation has joined with our
Junior Chamber International (JCI) for this noble cause.
To encourage people to think about leprosy, The Nippon
Foundation launched the THINK LEPROSY NOW campaign
in 2014. This public awareness campaign carries out
educational activities to promote a correct understanding of
leprosy. World Leprosy Day is being observed on January
31, and a variety of events will be held around that date,
with the Global Appeal launch ceremony as the centerpiece.
This year's launch ceremony was attended by approximately
250 persons, including people affected by leprosy and their
families, medical professionals, and human rights leaders
from around the world. In addition to addressing both the
medical and social aspects of the disease, the gathering also
dealt with setting an agenda for the future of leprosy.
INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT ON PEACE
The International Summit on Peace hosted by JCI
International will be held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
from 06 to 08 September 2017.
The Summit will provide a platform for active citizens and
global experts to join in building a common vision to create
an everlasting world peace. During this event, participants
will identify the greatest barriers to peace and formulate
sustainable solutions to these challenges, empowering young
people worldwide to be the generation to develop peace
within themselves, their community and the world around
them.
As the barriers to peace are diverse in communities around
the world, the International Summit on Peace program offers
three unique pathways to peace to empower individuals
from all backgrounds to successfully advance peace in their
communities. They are Peace Promoter, Peace Actor and
Peace Maker.

 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has carved a wonderful niche for itself in its eight
LISTICK Illustrious List
years of excellence in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As CSK is ought to make a
comeback after two years of hibernation, we thought it would be binding to list the
57 CSK players from 2008 to 2015. Out of the 57 players, 29 players were
overseas players. Australia has contributed the maximum of nine players followed
by Sri Lanka (6), South Africa (5), West Indies and New Zeland (4 each). In Andrew
Flintoff, England has a sole contributor. A total of 12 Tamil Nadu players have also

HIGHLIGHT Momentum on Monument

Gass Forest Museum is a government run natural history museum situated in the Forest College
Campus, situated on Cowley Brown Road. RS Puram, the heart of Coimbatore city.
Gass Forest Museum is named after Horace Arichibald Gass , the first curator of the museum.
Toward the end of the 19th century, an aborted attempt was made by J. A. Gamble, the
conservator of forests of Madras Presidency to establish a forest museum in the province. A few
years later in 1902, Gamble's successor as Conservator of Forests, Horace Arichibald Gass,
succeeded in establishing a museum for forestry. It was opened to the public 15 April 1902 by
Baron Ampthill, the then Governor of Madras.
Gass Forest Museum was maintained by the Government of Tamil Nadu after Indian
Independence. It is currently administered by the Institute for Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding
(IFGTB), which is also situated in the same campus as the museum. The museum was recently
renovated in May 1, 2015. A 3D diorama depicting wildlife in its natural habitat is a major
attraction.
Gass Forest Museum boasts more than 6000 exhibits that ranges from birds such as kingfishers,
cormorant, egret, hawks and eagles, to more than 600 timber species including a 456-year-old cross
section of a teak tree to more than 300 samples of rock, minerals and soil formations.
Gass Forest Museum will remain open between 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on all days except Sundays and
holidays. This is a place to take our children.

who has been an inspiration
I have been associated with Jaycees for nearly 15
years & I am an active Jaycee for six years now.
When I close my eyes thinking Jaycees, two
people come to my eyes, mind and heart. They
have always been inspiring. They are veterans in
Jaycees and have been hailed by one and all as
outstanding leaders. As far as I am concerned, I
am always amazed by the way they maintain
relationships in spite of taxing schedules and
issues. I am sure everyone who have come across
the legends JCI.Sen.K.Vallabhdas and
JCI.Sen.S.Balavelayurham have always been
inspired by them. I am one in that sea of
humanity.

A Tale to Tell
One day a fisherman and a monk were walking on the
beach soon after a storm. The storm had washed up
thousands of starfish on the shore, and very soon all of
them would be dead. The monk quickly went to the
shore, picked up starfishes and threw them into the sea.
The fisherman said, Surely, you cannot hope to throw all
these starfish back into the sea? They will die in their
thousands here. Ive seen it happen before. Your effort will
make no difference.. The monk replied
It will make a difference to the ones I threw into the sea.
Lesson : You can always make a difference
