Abstrak
The damage of oil as the heating process will lead to increased levels of free fatty acids
(FFA), iodine number, the onset of turbidity oil, foam formation, and the presence of impurities of
the spices used and the material being fried. Because it contains the FFA used cooking oil can be
processed into soap by reaction of saponification using KOH.
The purpose of this study was to determine the amount of FFA contained in cooking oil,
determine levels of FFA in the cooking oil saponifiable, determine suitability characteristics of liquid
soap produced by SNI. In this study the variation in terms of time reaction.
Cooking oil is neutralized using 15% KOH, and then enter the bleaching process using
activated carbon. Bleaching oil is reacted with KOH 40% of the variation in reaction time (60, 90,
and 120 min). Soap saponification results analyzed saponification numbers, high foam, the amount
of free alkali, and water content. The number of FFA contained in the used cooking oil is
0.16%. FFA levels in the cooking oil is saponifiable 198.033 mg KOH/g oil. From the hand-washing
soap lathering obtained the optimum using used cooking oil by reacting KOH 40% at temperatures
of 70 C and 120 minutes long saponification, the resulting liquid soap, do not irritate the skin. With
a water content 12.4%, 0.0561% and the alkali-free 0.16% FFA, and saponification numbers have
been qualified 198.033 mg KOH/g oil quality liquid soap SNI 06-3532-1994.
