(Indirect) Tax Era
Goods and Services Tax or GST as it is popularly called, has been
enough heard, spoken and probably dreaded about for past several
months (if not years) is finally a reality.

The midnight bell by our President, His Excellency Sri Pranab

Mukherjee and our Prime Minister, Honorable Sri Narendra Modi on
Rajesh Sharma the 30th June 2017 at the Central Hall of the Parliament, set to rest
the uncertainty and speculation around rolling out of this

transformational tax regime and putting 16+ indirect taxes into the
pages of history.
Over the past one month there have been various jokes and
humorous content floating all over the social media on GST. But, on
a serious note, this pathbreaking legislation in the Country is set to
break-free several trade barriers between the state borders. And, the
benefit of which will eventually flow to the end-consumer. It is not a
mere tax rate change but aims at restructuring the way business
was done in the past.

The efforts for this rollout were as humongous at our Company level
as have been at the Government Level. We kicked-off the Project at
Allergan India in October 2016. Representatives from various
functions and business worked together to make this a reality.
Members from Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, IS departments
at the Country level were supported by Regional IS team from
Singapore and Global IS Team from US. Products of Allergan India
fall under 3 tax slabs i.e., 5%, 12% and 28%, which are determined
based on the Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN) Code. The
MRPs of most of the Products of Allergan will go up due to GST as
the proposed rates are higher than the rates under the previous
regime. GST will facilitate availing of Input Tax Credit (ITC) for
procurement of goods and services that was not available to us in
the past and bringing about uniformity in processes for our
business across India.

To facilitate smooth transitioning to GST at Allergan, we have set up

a GST helpdesk that can be reached by Allergan employees at +91
4070 7222 during office hours for queries relating to GST only.
