Martin,
You grasped the technique very well which I was delighted with. We made changes which
are a major transition to what you have been used in the past so do not be discouraged if
you do not experience immediate success.
Key Points;
Set Up
Stand closer to the ball to give yourself more control over the shot as a
pitch is over a shorter distance
The ball position should be just back of centre to increase the
consistency of the strike
The hands are pressed forwards to recreate the impact position and help
strike the ball first
The stance width should be reduced, again this will increase control over
shorter distances. Although, the stance should progressively get wider as
the shot distance increases
The feet should be aligned just left of target to give the body more room
to release. Your shoulders must still be aligned square to the target to
encourage the correct swing path
Technique;
Pitching Positions;
“7 to 5” where the club head is opposite the hands and the shaft of the golf club is
parallel to the ground.
"8 to 4" where the club head is opposite the right shoulder and the arms are
positioned at 8 o’clock.
"9 to 3". The arms should be straight at a 90 degree angle to body.
"10.30 to 1.30" which is the full pitch shot. When performing this pitch really focus
on maintaining a smooth and controlled body turn due to the increased length of
swing.
Practice for next session;
Set the club in the backswing for the desired length of swing i.e. “9 o’clock”. Hold the
position, pause and turn the body and strike the golf ball and ensure to hold the finish
position and extend through.
Perform a pitch shot i.e. “7 to 5” swing using the body not the hands to swing the club.
Then perform the exact same length of swing with the following shot but aim to hit the ball
half the distance. This is achieved by reducing the speed of body rotation through impact.
You performed excellently throughout the session and I was delighted with the progress you
made.
Regards,
