Introductory Physical Science

Class Outline, Procedures and Sylllabus

In IPS, we will be exploring the basic principles of physical


science through reasoning and problem solving. Due to the
pacing and the number of labs, attendance is an absolute
priority. This is a high school credit class.

Textbooks: Textbooks must be covered. Students are


responsible for lost or damaged books ($68.00 replacement
cost).

Materials needed for class:

1 gridded composition notebook Ruler


1 Mead 5 star 1 subject notebook Book cover
Red, green and blue pens #2 pencils
Whiteboard marker (expo markers) Calculator (four function)
Transparent tape Removable sticky notes, small

Donations of Paper Towels for labs, facial tissues, hand


sanitizer and copy paper greatly appreciated.

Grading: Average is calculated by dividing points earned


by the total points possible.
Grades and Homework Grade Scale
can be checked on edsby. A=90-100 B=89-80
C=79-70 D=69-60
F<59
Turning in Work: (Turn in work to designated red
basket)
Work turned in after homework is checked and graded in
class, will be counted late and will receive 70% credit,
only if it is completed and corrected. Late homework
must be turned in within two school days.

Correcting Homework: If you receive a score of less


than 70%, the work can be redone, completed and
corrected within 2 days from the day it was checked and a
score of 70% will replace the lower score.

Tardiness:
Quietly enter the classroom and sign the Tardy Log or
show pass. After the second unexcused tardy, the student
will be given a lunch detention.
Absences
o Check edsby for missed homework assignment. See
county policy.
o Check class handout basket.
o Turn in any work that was due and write Absent on
x/x/xx on the top of the assignment. Put it in the red basket
that corresponds to your period.

Attach Returned Work into Notebook:


It is your responsibility to keep this work in case there is a
grading dispute.

Conduct:
We will be following the Cougar Way Conduct Grade
A=0 to 3
Code of Conduct. Disruptive behavior B=4 to 6
includes repeated unexcused tardiness and C= 7 to 9
coming to class unprepared. Students D= 10 to 12
choosing to disrupt the class will have to F= 13 and up
sign the conduct log.

Students shall be prepared for class by bringing their


textbook, notebook and writing utensils.

Students failing to listen and follow directions in lab are a


danger to themselves and others. Continued misbehavior in
lab will lead to a referral and a zero for that lab.
