Directions: Write ways by which you can take care of your own health on the following issues and concerns. At
home, you can do your research using internet, viewing books/resources or by asking the adults. (If the space is not
enough, you may use the blank space at the back of this paper)

Health and a. Stunted growth [slow growth]
Weight b. Underweight [skinny and thin]

Hearing a. Impacted Cerumen- earwax buildup which blocks the


ear canal
b. Swimmers ear irritation, inflammation or infection
as caused by the water trapped inside the ears
c. Otitis Media an ear infection as caused by bacteria

Vision/Sight a. Astigmatism- eye defect that causes blurry vision


caused by either eye injury or acquired to parents

b. Myopia nearsightedness as caused by frequent eye


fatigue or can be acquired

c. Hyperopia- farsightedness which is acquired

d. xerophthalmia- is dryness of the eyes [esp. cornea] as


caused by lack of a certain vitamins.

e. Strabismus-cross-eyes that can be inherited or caused


by an eye injury
Posture and a. Scoliosis abnormal lateral (or side to side) curvature
Spine of the spine
b. Lordosis- abnormal inward/forwards curvature of the
Spine
c. Kyphosis-abnormal outward curvature of the Spine
causing the haunching of the back

Oral and a. Cavities- a decay in the tooth that creates an abnormal


Dental hollow part in it
b. Gingivitis- inflammation in the gum caused by
bacteria
c. Periodontitis- inflammation of the tissue around the
teeth that causes shrinkage of the gums and loosening of
the teeth
d. Malocclusion- imperfect positioning of the teeth when
jaws are closed
e. Halitosis bad breath caused by bacteria
Skin, Hair a. Sunburn inflammation and peeling of the skin
and Nail caused by the overexposure to the sun
b. Dandruff-small pieces of dead skin in the hair
c. Corn, Calluses and Blisters- formed by the frequent
and repetitive friction on the skin
d. Ingrown Toenails- condition in which the side of your
toenail grown into soft flesh
Puberty is the stage where plenty of physical changes take place which can either be healthy or
unhealthy.
