ALGEBRA 1 SYLLABUS

Course Description
Algebra is the foundation for high school mathematics courses. It is the bridge from the concrete
to the abstract study of mathematics. Topics include number and algebraic methods, linear
functions, equations and inequalities, quadratic functions and equations, exponential functions
and equations. Real world applications are presented within the course content and a functions
approach is emphasized.

Classroom Rules

A good student is:

Prepared
o Bring supplies every day.
o Use the restroom before class.
Present
o Arrive before the bell.
o Put away cell phone and other electronics.
o Pay attention at all times.
o Stay until the teacher dismisses class.
Respectful
o Follow directions at all times.
o Use language that is appropriate for school.
o Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
o Respect teacher and classmates.
Bottom line: Dont stop your classmates from learning, and dont stop your teacher from
teaching

Procedures for Tardiness


You are considered late if you are not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings. If you are late
for class, you must get a tardy pass.

Procedures for Absence


Good attendance is important for students success. When the student is absent, it is his/her
responsibility to make up assignments or tests in a timely manner. If your absence is planned,
communicate with your teacher in advance. If not, communicate as soon as you return.

Daily assignments can be made up at home or during tutorials. Tests can only be made up
during tutorials.

Grading Policy
Daily work 50%
Tests 50%

Note: You have until the end of the six weeks to make up assignments. No assignments will be
accepted after the last day of the six weeks.

Grading Scale
A 100-90
B 89-80
C 79-75
D 74-70
F 69- Below

Tutorials
All students are highly encouraged to attend tutorials. This time can be used for additional
instruction, review for tests, extra time to work on assignments, or make-up tests and
assignments.

I will hold tutorials twice each week at the following times:


Monday from 2:40 to 3:40 PM
Tuesday from 2:40 to 3:40 PM

Note: Tutorials may be cancelled due to faculty meetings or unforeseen circumstances. This will
be announced during class time.
