Simple Subdivision Laboratory Exercise

This document provides instructions for a land surveying laboratory exercise involving a simple subdivision. The objectives are to familiarize students with standard templates, the subdivision process considering standards and restrictions, and basic cartographic skills like plotting parcels and lettering. Students will use the provided technical descriptions to plot boundaries on a standard form, propose a 4-lot subdivision with road lot, and provide computations, technical descriptions, and certifications for the lots. Scaling will depend on coordinate differences. Outputs include a subdivision sketch, technical descriptions, and a report.

GE 119 LAND SURVEYING

LABORATORY EXERCISE 3 (INDOOR ACTIVITY)

INDIVIDUAL SUBMISSION

I. PROBLEM: SIMPLE SUBDIVISION

II. OBJECTIVES:
1. To familiarize the student with a standard map template used by Geodetic Engineers
and required by a Land Administration Agency.
2. To practice the student with the process of doing simple subdivision taking into
consideration the different standards, requirements and restrictions.
3. To practice the student in basic cartographic skills that includes skills in plotting lot
parcels and lettering.

III. INSTRUMENTS AND ACCESSORIES

1. If softcopy submission:
a. CAD Software

2. If hardcopy submission:
a. BL Form
b. Ruler/ T-square/ Triangles
c. Pencil
d. Eraser
e. Technical or Sign Pens (preferably 0.3, 0.5, 0.8)

IV. INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the technical descriptions provided to the class, plot the boundaries of the lot on
the standard BL Form.
2. Propose a subdivision scheme composing of 4 lots including the road lot. Provide a
computation of the subdivision done and incorporate it in the report.
3. Compute and obtain the technical description of the lot computed from the tie-point.
4. Provide a narrative technical description for all the subdivision lots. Please see sample
narrative description

5. Sample wordings of the certification that can be used in the submission plan.

V. COMPUTATIONS

VI. REMARKS, HINTS & PRECAUTIONS:

1. The final output includes the following:

a. Sketch of the subdivision scheme drawn and plotted using the standard BL Form
for hardcopy submission or in pdf for softcopy submission;
b. Narrative technical description in docx format submitted digitally; and
c. Laboratory report
2. This exercise is an individual work and outputs shall be made and submitted per
individual. Group leaders must compile the reports and put in folders with the group
members name as folder names. These folders must be placed in folder with section
and group number as the name of the folder.
3. This exercise is good for 100 points and shall be submitted on March 31, 2016 (for
