Reciprocating MultiRuns
The MultiRun window allows the user to do multiple runs based on changing application and compressor
parameters. The user can vary suction pressure, discharge pressure, and operating RPM, as well as cylinder
action, clearance pocket position, and non-standard clearance.

For more information on the interaction rules for the Case Manager, Packages and Multi-Run refer to the Case
Packages Multirun Interaction.

Output File

Output Filename (csv) - selects the name of the output file generated when doing a set of runs over a pressure
and/or speed range.

Run

By checking the boxes, the user can vary operating RPM, suction pressure, discharge pressure, or any
combination of the three for the multiple runs. After the desired parameter is selected, the range is entered as a
starting value, stopping value, and incremental value. For example: start = 5 psi, end = 35 psi, and Inc = 5 psi,
would produce six (6) runs in the output file. The output file would be in the form of a .csv file which can be
viewed in graphical form with Ariel 7.X or imported into a spreadsheet or database. Please see the "MultiRun
Viewer" help file for more information on the user configurable graphic output. The service drop-down menu

lets you select which service to run, if the unit is set up for multiple services.

Method of Unloading

When running multiple runs, you can choose to have the compressor unload with one of three methods: Range,
Load Steps, or Adjusted. Please see below for information.

Misc

Run - the run button will run the calculation set up by the above parameters. The output will be displayed per the
pre-set default, either "MultiRun Viewer" or "Open CSV".

View Results - the view results button will open the last adjusted run that was completed, or any run name
entered into the "output filename (csv)" box.

Field Configuration - refer to "MultiRun Field Configuration" under the "MultiRuns" topic for details.

Viewer/Open CSV - the user can select the default output form for the results from a multiple run. Selecting
"viewer" will display the results graphically. Selecting "open csv" will display the results in a spreadsheet or
database by opening the default application associated with .CSV files, typically MS Excel.

Selected Cases

Selected Cases allows the multi-run to loop through the variables of speed, suction pressure, discharge pressure,
load step, and now any variable within the different cases. This allows multi-run to use different gasses, suction
temperatures, number of stages... as entered into the different operating cases. Be careful to only select (check
box) those cases that are of interest as this can create a large number of runs in the multi-run.

Range Unloading

The Range method simply varies some clearance in the first stage cylinder via a VVCP or non-standard
clearance.

VV Pkt Clr, % - using this option, the user can set up the MultiRun to vary the VVCP setting while performance
is being calculated. Each "load step" will show up as a separate line on the "MultiRun viewer" graph. Note that
only the first stage VVCP can be automatically varied.

Non-Std Clr, % - using this option, the user can set up the MultiRun to vary the cylinder non-standard clearance
while performance is being calculated. By using the drop down menu to the right of the "VV Pkt Clr %" option,
the user can select if the clearance in the HE, CE, or Both is to be varied in the calculations. Each "load step"
will show up as a separate line on the "MultiRun viewer" graph. Note that only the first stage non-standard
clearance can be automatically varied.

Load Step Unloading

As in the above example, Ariel 7.X allows the user to enter multiple load steps for a single compressor
configuration. In the example, the cylinder action is changed from double acting (DBL) to single acting crank
end, CE(HEVR), and the VVCP is changed from 0% open to 100% open. The program will allow an unlimited
number of load steps.

Enb - enable a step. When checked, the step will be part of the performance when the set of steps is Run. Note
that when multiple configurations are used, steps can be enabled in one config and disabled in another by first
selecting the desired configuration on the "Service/Stage Data Tab" then selecting "MultiRun" and checking or
un-checking the various Enb boxes.

Step - lists that step's number in the current set of steps.

Throw - lists the throw number being adjusted.

Model - lists the cylinder on the throw being adjusted.

Action - DBL, CE(HEVR), *CE(HEVU), HE(CEVR), *HE(CEVU), *Valves Unloaded is only available if the
HE and/or CE suction valve unloader option has been checked in the cylinder settings window.

VVpck% - the variable valve pocket percent open can be set anywhere from 0% to 100%.

FVCP# - if the cylinder has a fixed volume clearance pocket(s), then you have the option to set the pocket(s) to

open or closed.

HE/CE Vlv Pkt - if the cylinder is equipped with any valve pockets (single or double deck, suction or discharge),
then you will have a column for each pocket with the option for open or closed.

HE/CE spacers - any number equal to or less than the maximum allowable number of valve spacers (per the
cylinder settings box) can be added. Note that the HE/CE spacers columns can be turned off using the "Change
Spacers" check box. If the column is turned off, all of the steps will be run with the compressor equipped with
spacers as shown in the "Advanced Cylinder Configuration" window.

HE/CE NS% - any amount of head end and/or crank end non-standard clearance can be added. Note that the
HE/CE NS% columns can be turned off using the "Change NS Clr" check box. If the column is turned off, all of
the steps will be run with the compressor equipped with non-standard clearance as shown in the "Customize
Cylinder" window.

Description - each load step can be given a different description.

Load Step Manipulation

To manipulate the load steps, you can use either the buttons above the load step grid, or right click on the grid to
get the following menu.

Copy Step - copy an existing step.

Paste Step - paste the copied step onto another step.

Insert Copied Step - inserts the copied step anywhere into the existing step grid.

Add Step - this adds another step, identical to the one before it, to the load step grid.

Insert Step(s) - inserts a step(s) anywhere into the existing grid, the inserted step will be identical to the one
immediately above the selected step. Note that multiple steps can be selected and an equal number of steps will
be inserted, these steps will be identical to the one immediately above the first step selected.

Delete Step(s) - this deletes the selected step(s) (to select a step click on at least one block in that step). Note that
multiple steps can be selected for deletion.

Delete All Steps - this deletes all of the existing load steps.

Run Performance - this item allows the user to run a single performance using the step the cursor is on

Save Step to Cfg - commits the currently selected step to the unit configuration

Update Step from Cfg - Imports the current unit configuration step to the multi-run load step

Print Load Steps - produces a table showing all load steps.

Export Steps to CSV - outputs the load steps into a comma delimited file.

Adjusted Unloading

Variable to adjust - click the appropriate radio button to select which parameter (either RPM or Clearance) the
program will adjust to maintain the target flow or power value. Note that you can not vary RPM (under Run
options) and have the program attempt to maintain flow or power by adjusting RPM.

If Clearance is selected, you must indicate if you want to vary clearance with VVCP's, valve spacers, non-
standard clearance, or a combination of the three. Please note that the program will only vary settings for
configured pockets on first stage cylinders. For information on adding pockets to a cylinder, please see the
"Frame/Cylinder Data" topic.

Target - click the appropriate radio button to select which parameter (either flow or power) the program will
maintain while running performance. Once a parameter is chosen, a target value can be entered into the box.

Performance Values - this button is used to import the performance values (required flow and power) from the
"Service/Stage Data" and "Frame/Cylinder Data" screens into the Adjusted Unloading screen.

Multirun Field Configuration

When a varying adjusted or multi run performance calculation is performed, a .csv file is created. This file
contains information from the series of calculations that were completed to assemble the requested information.
The user has access to this file which can be opened with the Ariel performance program (for graphing), a
spreadsheet program, or a database program. The fields in the above window determine the information that is
placed into the .csv file. This can be done by selecting any of the parameters and then clicking add or remove to
create a custom list in the right hand window.

Select Field Config - Ariel 7.X has several built in output field configurations, and also allows the user to create
their own configurations. These configs determine what information will be exported when .CSV files are
created. Note that if you plan to import the data into a file which requires specific parameters to be varied, this
can be set up in your custom config using the "Required Parameters to Vary" check boxes.

Save Field Cfg - once a custom config is created, or a standard config is modified, it can then be saved under the
user's choice of names by using the "Save Field Cfg" option.

Set to Default Cfg - this option returns the program to the config defaults specified in the program properties, see
the "Properties" section for more information.

Delete Field Cfg - this option allows the user to delete any custom or user created configs.
